Title: Medical Interpreter (Spanish)

Job summary
The Medical Interpreter provides competent and culturally sensitive Spanish in-person or telephone interpretation for patients and their families/caregivers with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).
Summary of essential job functions
· Proficient in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
· Strong customer service background. Bi-lingual and bi-cultural in English and Spanish required.
· Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing in English and Spanish.
· Write legibly; speak in English and Spanish with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot basic office equipment necessary to the position.
· Demonstrates competency in detail work and accuracy.
· Communicate and relate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; comprehend and follow-through with instructions; be professionally assertive; be consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; accept direction.
· Communicate positively and effectively with physicians, healthcare providers, and LEP patients and families.
· Assists with front desk, pediatric, family practice, or OB/GYN reception duties as needed.
· Will work Saturdays as scheduled (typically on a rotation basis, averaging 1 per month)
Education/Experience
High school graduate or equivalent; and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Basic computer skills; ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
