KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of the application of psychological theories with respect to mental illness, it’s symptoms, treatment and social implications; and of methods and techniques used in training and supervision.
Skill in developing treatment plans; evaluating a wide variety of clinical data; in carrying out courses of treatment; and in communicating clearly, both orally and in writing.
Knowledge regarding the rationale and structure of Mental Health Court.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Performs administrative work of considerable difficulty in the provision of comprehensive case management services to individuals who have mental illness/substance use and who are involved in the criminal justice system.
· Works in partnership with the individual, the jail, the Courts, the District Attorney, the Public Defender and a wide range of professionals and community based service providers in an effort to minimize the consumer’s further involvement with the criminal justice system.
· Uses good judgment in selecting mental health services coordination for adult offenders.
· Determine eligibility for services.
· Review and evaluation of criminal records, police reports, psychiatric and psychological reports.
· Refer for initial health assessments of persons referred for Mental Health Court.
· Procure needed treatment or other services and monitor client progress.
· Act as liaison between the mental health community, detention and the Court.
· Coordinate efforts with the Court, the District Attorney and Public Defender or attorney for treatment.
· Attend court hearings and present evidence or recommendations to the court.
· Participate in team meetings and staff cases with treatment professionals, community service providers and court personnel.
· Attend and participate in any mental health court workgroup meetings.
· Perform work to address other behavioral health issues including, but not limited to, network development, quality of care concerns, and grievance issues.
· Collaborate with other agencies and organizations for the development of community-based mental health services to accommodate the specific needs of these consumers.
· Serves as technical consultation to other clinical staff regarding mental health court issues.
· Ensures that the Mental Health Court Program is following best practices as defined by ODMHSAS.
· Ensures that appropriate documentation and clinical records are maintained.
· Must be willing and able to perform all job related travel normally associated with this position.
· Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or other management as requested.
· Participates in staff meetings.
· Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job requirement.
· Must meet “satisfactory” expectations at any scheduled job performance evaluation.
· Quality of work will be evaluated through training, skill, or special purpose. Must be competent and adequate.
Must perform the specific job duties as listed above to meet position expectations.
In addition, must possess skill in working cooperatively and effectively with clients, staff, management and other professional groups; in exercising mature judgment in dealing with people; in presenting ideas clearly and accurately; in reading and comprehending the English language; and in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors degree in an ODMHSAS approved field or Master degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology or Criminal Justice.
Current certification as a Behavioral Health Case Manager II as described in OAC 317: 30-5-595(2).
Certified Behavioral Health Case Management is required and must be kept current annually and must complete certification within the first six months of employment.
An expectation of core competencies in relation to individuals with co-occurring disorders.
Salary : $49,200
