Janitorial Assistant Job Description:
The primary focus of this position is the upkeep and presentation of the Museum’s building which includes but is not exclusive to offices, exhibits, restrooms, closets, and much more. We are looking for an active and motivated person who interacts with all departments and positively impacts the visitor experience at the Museum. This is a part time position and will report directly to the Director of Facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cleaning all surfaces.
- Cleaning closets, program space, offices, stairways, lobbies, restrooms, elevators, benches, and other work areas as assigned.
- Sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors.
- Cleaning rugs and carpets.
- Dusting furniture and exhibits.
- Washing and dusting walls, ceiling, and woodwork. Washing windows, door panels, and sills.
- Emptying wastebaskets.
- Transporting trash and waste to the disposal area.
- Performing other special projects as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to operate cleaning equipment, such as buffers, strippers, and carpet cleaners. Prior knowledge of cleaning products and materials is helpful.

- Prolonged periods of walking/moving around, standing/remaining stationary, bending and stooping/kneeling.

- Use close vision and ability to focus on computer screens and documents; distance vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; color vision.

WORK SCHEDULE
- Available during all open business hours that will include weekends.
