POSITION: Activity Specialist (TTC Teaching Artist )
DEPARTMENT: Youth Services
REPORTS TO: Mentor Coordinator/Teen Tech Coordinator/Education Director
LOCATION: 168 Broome St New York NY 10002
SALARY: $35 - 45 Per Hour
SCHEDULE: (1) Day a Week, 4PM – 7PM. Scheduling may vary due to closures. Special events and open houses will create an opportunity for additional hours outside regular schedule.
STARTING DATE: February 2024
JOB SUMMARY: As part of our Youth Services Department’s vision: All Youth Services staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in all young people at all Grand Street Settlement sites. We are seeking a passionate well-rounded Teaching Artist. A jack-of-all trades with expertise in “maker education”, everything from digital fabrication, computer/music engineering, and creative arts to engage and mentor teens in our maker space. The ideal candidate is an experienced educator and artist/technologist who thrives in a hands-on, project-based environment. This role is perfect for someone who is excited about guiding young people through creative problem-solving, prototyping, and collaboration.

Education, Experience And Qualification Requirements
High School Diploma required; College Degree Preferred
- Passion for technology, multi-media, and the creative arts.
- Experience mentoring or educating youth (especially teens 13-19)
- Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Experience working with various type of equipment and a lifelong learner.
- A problem solver and creative thinker. Will come with new ideas and be ready to execute them.
- Ideal candidate has previous experience with classroom instruction and/or facilitating lessons.
- Candidate must be very responsible; organized & demonstrate positive communication skills
- Ideal candidate is personable, energetic, & enthusiastic.
- Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all members and mentors.
- Candidates must be able to motivate members while setting an example in all areas, including timeliness, attendance and most importantly, professionalism.
- Facilitate hands-on workshops and projects in areas such as 3D printing, laser cutting, woodworking, coding, robotics, wearable tech, music productions, or multimedia arts.
- Creating enriching lessons and curriculum for high-school teens 13-19
- Delivering weekly lesson plans prior to activity.
- Creating supplies list for required program supplies.
- Implementing and facilitating lesson plans and curriculum throughout the year for high-school teens 13-19
- Mentor and inspire teens to develop their creative and technical skills while encouraging self-expression and critical thinking.
- Co-create learning experiences that align with youth interests, integrating STEM, arts, and design-thinking principles.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages risk-taking and experimentation.
- Collaborate with staff and guest artists/technologists to develop and refine engaging maker programs.
- Maintain Maker Space tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring safety and accessibility for youth participants.
- Support youth-driven projects and exhibitions, helping teens showcase their work at events like our Discovery Fair.
- Responsible for supervising all participants particularly during activities.
- Ensuring safety of all participants if activities are outside.
- Maintaining space in an organized and clean fashion.
- Reporting all incidents/ injuries immediately to the Mentor/Teen Tech Center Coordinator
- Assist with all aspects of programming (following organization’s mission, supervising all youth, working collectively, and communicating with all staff)
- Take initiative to guide members through lessons and curriculum.
- Maintain program supplies and equipment.
- Help reinforce all community agreements.
- Administrative duties that may include follow up emails to members.
- Other duties as assigned
