SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 pm, or 9 am-5 pm. The schedule may vary due to program needs.
JOB SUMMARY: The Family Advocate's role includes implementing the Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (PFCE) component aligned with the partner's School Readiness Goals (SGR) and the Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance (ERSEA) areas outlined in the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS). The position involves fieldwork, direct family interaction, planning, record-keeping, and training.

Education, Experience And Skill Requirements
- Minimum requirement: High School Diploma/GED, with a plan to obtain the Family Development Credential within eighteen (18) months of being hired
- Preferred: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field
- Experience working with families of children from birth to 48 months
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
- Experience and training in supporting parents in advocacy and decision making for their families, fostering positive relationships with children and parents
- Familiarity with local community-based agencies and resources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel, knowledge of web-based data systems.
- Availability for flexible working hours to accommodate the needs of the families
- Participation in required professional development activities to enhance skills
- Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid
- Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Chinese proficiency strongly preferred
- Clearance through DOI Fingerprint Screening, NYS Central Registry, Sex Offender Registry clearance, 3 reference checks, physical examination with updated TB test, varicella, tdap, MMR (fees may apply)
- Obtain a Mandated Reporter training certificate (every 2 years) and comply with the agency’s policy and procedure for identifying and reporting of child abuse and neglect
- Obtain First Aid/CPR and Preventive Infectious Diseases certificate within the first year of employment.
- Meet all employee health requirements in Article 47 (DOHMH) and Head Start Performance Standards.
Under the direct supervision of the Family and Community Partnership Coordinator, the Family Advocate shall be responsible for the following tasks:
- Enrollment: Conduct outreach and recruitment to identify, recruit, and enroll prospective families in compliance with eligibility regulations; Maintain a minimum of 97% of enrollment at all times.
- Family Partnerships: Manage a caseload of families, develop and maintain strengths-based relationships, collaborate to establish and achieve family goals, and track progress through family partnership agreements.
- Community Partnerships: Provide families with appropriate referrals and ensuring follow up with families and service providers
- Record Keeping: create and maintain updated records of child and family information in COPA systems, assisting with collecting health and dental records, maintaining data for the annual Program Information Report (PIR), monitoring and following up on support service referrals, and ensuring documentation complies with Head Start Performance Standards/Head Start Act 2007.
- Governance: Ensure families participate in Program Governance Meetings
- Service Coordination: Maintaining communication with partner providers to integrate family partnership goals with classroom efforts.
- Assist in planning and facilitating parent involvement activities and events.
- Participate in home visits when necessary in regard to any follow-ups, attendance, or routine visits
- Effectively communicate with children, families, staff, management, and community partners
- Ability to comprehend and implement the Head Start Performance Standards and policies of Grand St. Settlement Early Childhood Program
- Provide translations in verbal and written form as needed for parents/guardians and program needs
- Assist families with the application and transition into 3K and Pre-K via DOE
