POSITION TITLE : Family Advocate
DEPARTMENT : Early Childhood
LOCATION(S) : Lower East Side - Manhattan, New York
REPORTS TO : Family and Community Partnership Coordinator
SALARY RANGE : $36,960- $47,520 (benefits include life insurance, 401k plan, and vacation, personal and sick time-off)
DATE : Dec 2024
SCHEDULE : Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 pm, or 9 am-5 pm. The schedule may vary due to program needs.
JOB SUMMARY : The Family Advocate's role includes implementing the Parent, Family, and Community Engagement (PFCE) component aligned with the partner's School Readiness Goals (SGR) and the Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance (ERSEA) areas outlined in the Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS). The position involves fieldwork, direct family interaction, planning, record-keeping, and training.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS :
- Minimum requirement : High School Diploma / GED, with a plan to obtain the Family Development Credential within eighteen (18) months of being hired
- Preferred : Associate or Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field
- Experience working with families of children from birth to 48 months
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team
- Experience and training in supporting parents in advocacy and decision making for their families, fostering positive relationships with children and parents
- Familiarity with local community-based agencies and resources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel, knowledge of web-based data systems.
- Availability for flexible working hours to accommodate the needs of the families
- Participation in required professional development activities to enhance skills
- Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid
- Bilingual English / Spanish or English / Chinese proficiency strongly preferred
