Lead Bike Mechanic Summer 2025

SUMMARY  

Position requires top-level bike service ability, selling bikes, apparel, accessories, and directing trail information to the public. This includes obtaining payment for goods sold and/or rented, safely fitting and renting bikes and biking accessories, and utilizing the point-of-sale system while balancing daily receipts. A crucial part of every employee's job is to engage with guests and provide outstanding customer service, making each guest feel welcomed. Additionally, all employees are expected to serve as Grand Targhee ambassadors, promoting a positive guest experience at every opportunity. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Including the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

1. Provide superior service to all guests, including the general public and Grand Targhee employees, maintaining a friendly and enthusiastic attitude. 
2. Greet guests and discuss their needs for rental, retail, and repair services. 
3. Sell, service, rent, and fit bikes, helmets, and other protective gear to guests. 
4. Prepare rental forms, obtaining customer signatures and other necessary information. Ensure proper understanding of rental forms and waivers of liability. 
5. Explain rental fees, policies, and procedures clearly to guests. 
6. Inspect and adjust rental items to ensure they meet customer needs. 
7. Receive, examine, and tag articles to be altered, cleaned, stored, or repaired. Perform bike tuning functions and fill work tickets for major maintenance or repairs. 
8. Assist retail clerks when needed, including checking in new merchandise. 
9. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of bike inventory and bike supplies. 
10. Conduct physical inventories when necessary. 
11. Handle guest issues respectfully and professionally. 
12. Cross-train to sell in other key areas of Habitat retail. 
13. Direct guests to the appropriate bike merchandise and provide up-to-date information (current trends, technical details, fabric characteristics, etc.) to assist with purchases. 
14. Accept payment efficiently and courteously, ensuring proper entry of payment details into the cash register, accurate change handling, and verification of credit card transactions. 
15. Assist retail clerks with cash register balancing at the beginning and end of shifts, following current policies and procedures. 
16. Maintain flexible working hours as required. 

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY: 

1. Protect the safety of self-workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests. 
2. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay. 
3. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor. 
4. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures. 
5. Operate equipment safely so that it will not lead to injury to yourself or others. 
6. Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  

This job has no supervisory responsibilities with staff. 

WORK SCHEDULE

Due to the nature of the recreation industry, we are in operation seven days a week. This includes weekends and holidays and there is no guarantee of hours. Flexible working hours may be required based on the business levels.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

• Knowledgeable and skilled in running a cash register with previous cash handling experience. 

• Guest service experience is required. 
• Up-to-date mechanical and technical experience working on bikes preferred.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS  

Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

 Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization. 

REASONING ABILITY 

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. 

• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
