Job description
The Director of Nursing ensures that the health and safety needs of all residents are met. This position is responsible for the management and supervision of all direct care staff, ensuring that staff are trained and competent to deliver all nursing tasks. The Director of Nursing ensures the facility is in compliance with current state and federal regulations and follows all nursing standards of practice.
Clinical Support Responsibilities:
- Provides clinical support of home care operations to Senior Living Communities and Staff.
- Assess and provides clinical support for compliance with the regulations and companies policies.
- Works with corporate leaders to support the system wide Quality Assurance Program, including develop means to collect data or implement plans to support goals of QA.
- Responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the mock survey process for regional staff and communities to ensure compliance in documentation, MARS, staff observation, training, etc.
- Ensures the availability and success of organizational programming for quality resident services.
- Audits, revises, implements, supports and guides Company's policy and procedure and delivery of care.
- Works with regional staff to support plan of correction process to include follow up and necessary training.
- Maintains awareness of variety of clinical equipment used at each location (i.e. mechanical lifts) to assure site has proper training and safe patient handling/safe medical devices.
- Supports companies lift policies and work place injury reduction program.
- Educates staff as needed on working safely such as gate belts, following policies, infection control and exposure control.
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Supports and manages regional clinical team on fact-finding investigation of resident/family/other grievances/complaints or errors in conjunction with Regional Director of Operations and on-site management.
- Problem solves as needed with regional and Registered Nurse for resident care and services.
- Demonstrates the clinical knowledge and judgment to utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement interventions.
- Assists RDOs and Community RN’s in the management and development of forms and assessment tools to assure compliance and clinical excellence.
Compliance Responsibilities:
- Ensures the education of all company nurses of health care regulations affecting their Senior Living Community.
- Works with the regional team to train employees on forms and clinical assessment tools; required documentation.
- Supports senior living Electronic Medical Record implementation and enhancements and electronic form development.
- Conducts in-service training, on the spot training, and delegation of services as necessary to aides.
- Manages on-line learning system to ensure annual compliance, new hire compliance as well as consistent practices and state-specific regulations.
- Manages Company’s HIPAA compliance to include training and investigations.
- Manages the comprehensive license in Minnesota and works with the operations team to support the licensure in Wisconsin, Iowa, and future state requirements as necessary.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Licensed Registered Nurse, BSN. Ability to obtain license in all states of Cornerstone’s operations.
- Minimum three years of related work experience in Home Care, Assisted Living.
- Experience with Federal/State regulations /on-site inspections and significant compliance.
- Ability to establish and maintain credible relations with Community Directors.
- Comfort and ability to work self-directed.
- Ability to embraces change, respond to urgent matters quickly, calmly.
- Ability to drive and possess a valid driver’s license, some travel required.
- Solid knowledge of basic Microsoft applications; organizational skills; high level of accuracy and attention to detail and customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to acquire the Wisconsin Administrators License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science – Nursing
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to drive and flexibility to travel up to 75% to various sites as needed.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing and moving.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times with or without assistance.
