Schedules patients for surgery, tests, referrals, pre-operative tests, and medical and urological procedures. Position requires the utilization of clinical knowledge to schedule appropriate procedures/surgeries per provider's orders.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Schedules office and hospital based medical procedures and surgeries, completes facility paperwork
- Schedules patients for diagnostic and imaging tests and completes informed consent with patients for procedures and surgeries
- Interfaces with appropriate vendors to ensure all necessary equipment will be on site for procedures/surgeries
- Reviews patient's medications and health history to determine pre-admission testing; enters notes and special instructions needed for procedures
- Schedules and gets approval for appropriate medical and urological clearances
- Confirms patient insurance information and obtains prior authorization as required
- Schedules patients for follow-up appointments and tests.
- Other duties as assigned
- Knowledge of EMR and Microsoft Office
- Computer background/knowledge preferred.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures desirable.
- Knowledge of medical terminology helpful.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Must possess tact, diplomacy and positive attitude
- May require travel to other nearby urology offices
- Minimum of a high school diploma and 1-3 years of experience in a health care setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Surgery scheduling experience or equivalent medical office scheduling experience is required
- Must be able to multi task and handle obstacles with outstanding customer service skills required.
- Familiarity with EMR systems
- Required lifting up to 10lbs
- Repetitive motion associated with operating a computer and other office equipment
