Head Lifeguard - Full Time

The Granite YMCA is hiring a full-time Lead Lifeguard to support our pool facilities at our YMCA of the Seacoast location in Portsmouth, NH. This person will play a key role in leading our staff teams while supporting the needs of our members and ensuring safety in all areas of the pool area. Opportunity for advancement for interested candidates and employees since we promote from within: nearly all of our Coordinators, Assistant Director and Directors started out as Lifeguards. The ideal candidate will bring at least 2years of lifeguarding experience and currently holds a Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard certification. Preferred candidate may also bring experience teaching swim lessons or water exercise. The YMCA of the Seacoast has a year-round indoor pool, and two outside seasonally operated pools.   Responsibilities: Supervise Aquatics staff in the absence of the Aquatics Director or Coordinator. Some hours of administrative support on a weekly basis. Understands emergency procedures and recognizes and responds to emergency situations in the pool area. Maintains effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other team members. Understands and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool area. Takes responsibility for implementing and supporting change of policies/procedures. Maintains accurate pool records as required by the YMCA and state/local Health Department code. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed; this includes rescue equipment and well stocked fanny packs and first aid kits.
