The General Manager at Grapes & Grains is responsible for creating exceptional customer experiences while overseeing daily operations, staff development, inventory management, and store performance. This role requires a hands-on leader who prioritizes floor presence and customer interaction while maintaining operational excellence.
### Key Responsibilities
**Customer Experience**
- Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service on the sales floor
- Implement strategies to continuously enhance the customer experience
- Ensure all team members understand and uphold service standards
- Be visibly present on the floor during store hours to assist customers directly
**Staff Management**
- Oversee hiring, training, and development of all store personnel
- Foster a positive team environment to maintain high staff morale
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback
- Create and maintain staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage
**Operations Management**
- Ensure timely store opening and closing procedures are followed
- Maintain store cleanliness in all areas of the store including storage areas, office and
outside as well as merchandising standards
- Monitor and maintain compliance with all applicable regulations
- Implement and enforce safety and security protocols
**Inventory & Vendor Relations**
- Oversee inventory management and stock levels
- Maintain organized receiving areas and processes
- Communicate regularly with Buyer regarding inventory needs and market trends
- Coordinate with vendors to identify promotional opportunities
- Recommend special purchases to ownership based on market analysis
**Financial Performance**
- Monitor and maintain appropriate profit margins
- Manage labor costs within established guidelines
- Develop strategies to improve store profitability
- Provide weekly recommendations to owner on performance improvements
### Qualifications
- 3 years of retail management experience, preferably in specialty retail or beverage
alcohol
- Proven leadership abilities and team development skills
- Strong knowledge of wine, spirits, and beer (or willingness to learn)
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to analyze sales data and inventory metrics
- Availability to work retail hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
### Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
- Frequent bending, reaching, and product handling
