Job description
Gigi New York Handbag company seeks a highly skilled and experienced Handbag Pattern/Sample Maker for luxury handbags and leather goods. The Pattern/Sample Maker will collaborate with Designer and Production Development Manager in order to achieve cost-effective, high-quality constructions. Individuals who desire a hands-on experience can follow the design process onto the production floor in one of the largest leather factories In America. The high volume of leathers on hand come from many of Europe’s finest tanneries. Alongside handbags, the production facility is home to a wide range of accessories, home and desk products and bookbinding as well. Our in-house production can provide a broad landscape for advancement. This western Long Island facility has operated since the mid 80’s and is recognized worldwide for the quality of its products. Working schedules are flexible and we are interested in both full and part-time help.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately and efficiently, make professional luxury handbag and leather goods patterns for prototypes, samples and production purposes.
- Interpret design cards, specs and technical drawings. Maintain design aesthetic while adhering to company quality standards.
- Ability to present and offer innovative suggestions to create cost effective/proficient constructions.
- Work closely with Production team leads to ensure constructions are executed properly.
- Assist with Pattern Maker training, when applicable.
Required Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 3 years working experience as a Handbag and Leather Goods Pattern/Sample Maker.
- The ability to operate a sewing machine is a plus.
- Candidates will be considered based on both experience and ability.
Sample Development & Costing
- Assist in the costing of samples and new production items.
- Measure and monitor handbag productivity to support efficiency improvements.
Quality Control
- Oversee quality control processes.
- Regularly inspect goods in production to ensure they meet company standards.
Production Support
- Gain hands-on experience with table work related to assembly line production.
- Work in the sewing department as needed.
- Ensure production deadlines are met by coordinating with cross-functional teams.
Cutting Operations
- Support the cutting operation, including understanding cutting orders.
- Help label dies and assist in creating cutting orders accurately.
Scheduling & Prioritization
- Assist in scheduling and prioritizing production for handbags and small accessories.
- Collaborate with the production team to ensure efficient workflow and timely delivery.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $40.00 per hour
