Job Summary
The Litigation Paralegal role plays a vital role in the collection litigation process. The litigation paralegal will work directly with both the collections staff and attorneys to ensure that each case is managed from start to finish in an efficient, effective manner.
Responsibilities
The Litigation Paralegal may do some or all the following:
- Draft small claims writs and superior court complaints, along with supporting service of process documentation
- Coordinate service of process and record service
- Draft affidavits of debt and coordinate execution of affidavits with attorneys and clients
- Prepare responses to pleadings, motions, or court orders
- Filing legal documents with court including writs, complaints, motions, affidavits, and exhibits
- Track each case and accurately calendar each case deadline
- Prepare and file exhibits for each contested matter
- Various other duties as assigned by management
Education and Qualifications
- High school diploma required
- Notary preferred (willingness to become a notary a plus)
- Previous experience in the collection industry preferred
- Must have fluency with various software applications programs including email messaging, Microsoft Word, and Excel
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures
- Strong attention to detail in a high-volume environment
- Strong keyboard typing skills (ideally more than 50 words per minute)
- Strong Knowledge of computers, office technology, and relevant software applications
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask, and adapt to changing demands and shifting priorities
Skills Required
To be successful, as Litigation Paralegal must possess strong written and verbal communications skills, as well as demonstrated proficiency with computers including typing skills, along with customary office software such as Gmail, Microsoft Word and Excel. Duties require excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail.
