Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal with 1-5 years of experience in civil and personal injury litigation to join our dynamic team at a full-service law firm in Hartford, Connecticut. The ideal candidate will be a proactive team player, eager to contribute to the success of the firm and its clients. In this role, you will work closely with attorneys and other legal professionals to support a variety of legal matters from pre-litigation through trial and post-trial phases, including appeals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys with all phases of civil and personal injury litigation, including pre-litigation, discovery, motions, trial preparation, post-trial matters, and appeals
- Draft and review legal documents such as pleadings, discovery requests and responses, deposition summaries, post-trial motions, appellate briefs, and settlement documents
- Conduct legal research and gather evidence for case preparation, including research for appeals and post-trial motions
- Manage and organize case files, ensuring all documents and communications are up-to-date and properly filed
- Coordinate with clients, opposing counsel, and experts to schedule meetings, depositions, hearings, and trials
- Assist in preparing exhibits, trial notebooks, appellate documents, and other materials for trial and appeal presentations
- Maintain and track case deadlines, including filing deadlines, court dates, and appellate deadlines
- Ensure compliance with court rules and procedures for filings and document submissions, including appellate procedures
- Assist with settlement negotiations, post-trial motions, and mediation preparation as needed
Qualifications:
- 1-5 years of paralegal experience, preferably in civil litigation and personal injury, with experience in post-trial and appellate matters
- Strong understanding of litigation processes, including discovery, depositions, trial preparation, post-trial motions, and appeals
- Experience drafting and filing appellate briefs, post-trial motions, and related documents
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in legal research, case management software, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
