What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian II position at Grays Harbor County?
The employee in this classification performs a variety of custodial tasks to provide clean, sanitary, and safe conditions in county buildings. Daily tasks are assigned verbally and by written work order by the Director or designee.
Employees in this position may be required to perform portions or all of the duties normally falling under positions within or below the current classification depending on current workload and staffing requirements. Other duties may be assigned as required.
Requires the physical strength and ability sufficient to perform physical labor for extended periods. Work is normally performed inside buildings but may include some outside work. May lift and carry up to 40 pounds and work alone at night in public buildings.
Education and Experience

- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors and other wood surfaces.
- Dusts furniture and equipment and polishes furniture and metal fixtures.
- Empties and cleans wastebaskets.
- Disposes of garbage, trash, and recycling.
- Washes inside of windows and interior glass.
- Vacuums rugs, curtains, blinds, and furniture.
- Cleans and keeps restrooms supplied with paper, towels, soap, etc.
- Cleans kitchen areas.
- May assist in moving furniture and equipment or arrange tables and chairs for special events.
- Observes and informs Director of need for minor maintenance work in assigned areas, i.e., painting, oiling hinges, replacing faucet washers, toilet tank parts, light bulbs, etc.
- Turns off lights, closes and locks windows and doors of assigned areas.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- A valid Washington State driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and Defensive Driving certifications.
- Ability to pass Sheriff's background clearance prior to employment as required for work performed in the Sheriff's offices.
- Willingness to sign Department of Health and Social Services confidentiality agreement as required for work performed in that department.
