The Grayslake Area Public Library District is seeking a Deputy Director that values service, encourages innovation, and can work closely with our Executive Director to provide strategic leadership to our library. This is a Full Time (37.50 hours per week) Exempt position with pay ranging between $80,028 and $111,150.
The Grayslake Area Public Library, serving a population of 27,919, recently completed its new Strategic Plan, and is seeking a Deputy Director who is forward thinking and excels at project management. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in driving initiatives that align with our strategic priorities, fostering collaboration across departments, and ensuring that our services continue to evolve to meet community needs.
Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a member of the Administration Team, the Deputy Director will provide leadership in the day-to-day operation and the long-term planning of Community Engagement and Public Services, ensuring effective service delivery and quality of operations, will manage assigned employees, including hiring, training, coaching, delegating responsibilities and evaluating performance. The Deputy Director will monitor and interpret all HR legal updates in tandem with consultants, will update HR policies and procedures while ensuring operational compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and best practices, and will assist the Executive Director in the preparation and administration of the annual budget, and in the implementation of policies, procedures, and goals established by the Board of Trustees.
The Grayslake Area Public Library has approximately 40 part-time and 22 full-time staff members with the majority of them working directly with the public.
The requirements for this position are a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution and at least five years of relevant experience, including at least three years of supervisory experience.
