Job Description:
The State University of New York at Fredonia invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Trumpet.
This position requires demonstrated excellence in both classical and jazz/commercial trumpet performance and pedagogy, with the ability to inspire and mentor students across a range of musical genres and degree programs.
Core responsibilities include teaching applied trumpet lessons and leading recital seminars.
Additional teaching duties may include brass pedagogy, coaching brass chamber music, directing jazz combos, and teaching courses for non-trumpet majors.
This role also involves directing and coaching trumpet ensembles, contributing to the School of Music's jazz/commercial music program, engaging in research and creative activities, and supporting recruitment and outreach initiatives.
Versatility is essential, as the ideal candidate will bring a passion for both traditional and contemporary approaches to trumpet performance and instruction, fostering student growth at all levels and backgrounds.
Requirements:
A Master's degree in a relevant discipline, three years teaching experience at the collegiate level or equivalent professional experience, demonstrated excellence as a performer, and facility with multiple musical genres, including classical and jazz.
Experience teaching a diverse range of undergraduate students, with a proven ability to inspire and support student learning across multiple genres and disciplines, including classical, jazz, popular, and commercial music.
A commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in music education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline (or ABD), demonstrated engagement with pedagogical practices and artistic approaches that promote inclusion and equity, familiarity with both traditional and contemporary trumpet pedagogies, and the ability to reconcile diverse approaches.
A record of creative activity, research, and/or scholarship demonstrating ongoing contributions to the field, and experience mentoring students in independent creative activities and professional development.
