The Financial Division oversees all accounting and financial reporting for American Financial Group and Great American Insurance Group.

Great American Financial Division co-ops quickly become an integral part of our financial reporting team. Our rotational program allows students to experience several departments in our organization by working in a new area each semester. This position consists of a full semester in up to four different departments such as Corporate Accounting, Investment Accounting, SEC Finance, and Internal Audit. The co-op will begin in fall 2025 and is based in our Cincinnati, OH headquarters.

Corporate Accounting Department

• Prepare schedules to support the monthly consolidated financial statements.

• Prepare monthly tax provisions and book general ledger entries.

• Assist with the preparation and distribution of the monthly earnings packages.

• Prepare annual/ quarterly statutory-basis statements and filings.

Investment Accounting Department

• Prepare monthly closing package and supporting schedules, including cash and inventory reconciliations, for multiple subsidiaries.

• Record investment income and carrying values into the subsidiaries’ general ledgers.

• Analysis of investment results and investigation of variances.

• Prepare annual/ quarterly statutory-basis statements and filings.

SEC Reporting Department

• Assist in the preparation of AFG’s SEC forms 10-K, 10-Q and 13-F, including preparation of supporting documentation.

• Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for the AFG managed collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) that are required to be included in AFG’s consolidated financial statements.

• Proofread and perform other clerical duties related to the preparation of AFG’s SEC forms 10-K and/or 10-Q.

• Prepare and/or review various internal management reports using Excel, the Company’s general ledger system, and SEC reporting system.

Internal Audit Department

• Perform internal audits and review internal controls for effectiveness and efficiency.

• Test the reasonableness of financial balances and ensure compliance with statutory and generally accepted accounting principles.

• Prepare electronic audit workpapers in accordance with company and external audit standards.

• Inform the audit coordinator of the progress of assignments and discuss results and recommendations for improvement with audit team and company management.
