As an Optical Assistant, your role involves providing exceptional customer service, while assisting patients in an ophthalmic setting. You’ll be the bridge between doctors and patients, ensuring smooth scheduling and efficient management of appointments. Let’s delve into the key duties and qualifications:
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Greets patients with a smile.
· Demonstrates cheery disposition, providing excellent customer service.
· Answers phones promptly, returning phone calls when necessary. Timely follow-up on necessary phone calls.
· Determines what services patients are requiring and passing along information to correct teammate.
· Locating job orders and/or prescriptions and providing information to Optician.
· Helps maintain cleanliness of optical department and ensures work station is neat and orderly.
· Runs fax, copy, laminate, and other office machines.
· Daily alphabetization of job orders.
· Assist with scanning job orders in EMR system.
· Keep patient bags stocked and ready to be dispensed at all times.
· Write invoice numbers on incoming orders when they arrive from the lab.
· Call patients when their glasses are ready for pick up.
· Pull cases for orders and put completed orders in pick up cabinet.
· Assist Opticians as needed.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to demonstrate customer-focused interpersonal skills in order to interact in an effective manner with physician, staff, patients, and families. Ability to collaborate with all teams and various levels of personnel as part of a team. Ability to organize, prioritize, and have time management skills. Ability to work extended work hours beyond normal work schedule to include but not limited to evenings, extended shifts, and or extra shifts on short notice.
_ PHYSICAL DEMANDS:_
Must be in good physical and mental health. Long periods in stationary positions required throughout work period. The person in this position occasionally moves about inside the office. The person in this position frequently communicates with patients, patients’ families, co-workers, and doctors. Must have ability to cope with physical and mental stress.

Potential exposure to fumes, dust gases, and odors. Frequent changes in temperature may occur. Possibility of exposure to communicable disease. Awareness of exposure as a high-risk environment.
