Job summary :

Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques.  Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.  Requires assembly  and finishing skills to complete product to delivery. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.  Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Responsible to make sure that all parts are the correct size per the blueprint as evidenced by additional measuring and reading of the blueprint.
  • Responsible for installing electrical wires and all related hook ups as evidenced by the blueprint.
  • Assembles all components of the product and tests that the product will work before shipping as evidenced by the quality check from the engineering department before shipment to the customer.
  • Grinds, sands and polishes the product in the most time efficient and cost effective manner as evidenced by department standards.
  • Welds product and verifies that all completed welds are acceptable for finishing as evidenced by minimal returns to the welding department to repair welds.
  • Designs and fabricates as needed due to engineering changes or incorrect fit of product as evidenced by supervisor's observation.
  • Repairs welds sent back from the finishing department as evidenced by the repaired product.
  • Required to use the protective ventilation equipment at each workstation as evidenced by the supervisor's observation and employee's daily use of the system.
  • Fills out inventory pull sheets for all product used as evidenced by the receipt of the sheets into the office with appropriate job numbers on all forms.
  • Deliver and distribute all welded materials to finishing as evidenced by the traveler.
  • Process job orders in a timely and accurate manner as evidenced by the completed traveler with appropriate job number.
  • Logs into the shop management computer system to allow for an accurate accounting of time spent on a particular job as evidenced by labor reports produced by the E2 system.
  • Responsible to clean up area at the end of each shift as evidenced by supervisor's observation.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of material, methods, tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in poor lighting, heating and ventilation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in extreme hot and cold conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in dirty and noisy areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints.
  • Demonstrated ability to sketch schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in tight places.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift moderately heavy objects (50-90 pounds).
  • Demonstrated ability to do excessive walking, standing, bending and stooping.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate various types of welders. (Example :   Mig, Tig, stick welding and spot welding on various types of metals.)

14.  Other duties as required by supervisor.

Minimum Requirements :

Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.  May be required to complete an apprenticeship and / or formal training in area of specialty. May require 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.  A valid driver's license preferred.  Special Welding Certifications may be required.
