Summary
Perform painting, glazing, and related skilled trades facilities maintenance work, routine preventative and predictive maintenance, and other related work as directed. Repair, construct, remodel, demolish, and maintain facilities, buildings, and grounds primarily on non-process equipment.Job Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces, patch surfaces, prime surfaces, and paint surfaces.
- Mix and match paint and stain colors.
- Understand how to select, prepare, and apply the appropriate paint, stain, epoxy, enamels, and coatings to all different types of materials and surfaces, (drywall, plaster, metal concrete, etc.) Select appropriate coatings, paint, and stain for, interior and exterior assigned tasks.
- Use and properly clean and maintain painting equipment, sprayers, cup guns, airless sprayers, pot sprayers, and paint tint machines.
- Complete glass and window repairs, including glass cutting, frame preparation, caulk, putty, and installation.
- Perform interior and exterior work as well as working from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, scissor lifts, aerial lifts, and swing stages.
- Catalog and date, products and colors used at specific locations.
- Use sign-making machines and generate graphics, engravers, stencils, vinyl letters, rollers, brushes, and spray equipment.
- Install signs, name plaques, logos, and door signage.
- Prepare estimates for material costs and labor hours for assigned tasks.
- Assist in the development of painter and glazier material supply contracts and track use of those contracts.
- Participate in ongoing training and learning.
Assist other skilled trades and team members as requested
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completed Building Trades Painter and Glazier Apprenticeship Program (4 year); AND, four (4) years of experience as a Journeyman Painter
- Possess a current State of Michigan Journeyman Painter/Glazier Card
OR
- Minimum of ten (10) years of verified experience in Painting and Glazing, including Building Construction, Facilities Maintenance; AND
- Painting and Glazing experience in industrial, utility or plants, pumping stations, facilities maintenance, and repair work.
Other Requirements
- Valid Driver's License
- Pass a GLWA Background Check
- Pass a drug test.
- Be available 24/7/365 for emergency work and planned projects.
- Must be familiar with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires interior and exterior work and working from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, scissor lifts, and Aerial Lifts. Required to erect scaffolding to assist in the performance of the painter and glazier trade. Ability to complete repair and remodeling work as well as new construction. Ability to measure, layout, read and interpret penciled sketches, specifications, and construction documents. Maintain a paint color log. Ongoing training and learning required. Ability to lift and carry over 50 pounds. Ability to drive vans, large trucks, dump trucks, Hi-Lo, and carts.
