Practical Nursing Instructor - Adult Workforce Development
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Great Oaks Career Campuses' Health Professions Academy is seeking dedicated part-time faculty members to provide instruction in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings for their adult practical nursing program. The ideal candidates will possess a strong commitment to nursing education, demonstrate expertise in their specialty area, and be passionate about fostering student success and professional growth. While expertise in areas such as medical-surgical, pediatrics, maternity, and mental health nursing is highly desirable, it is not required. We welcome all qualified nursing professionals committed to excellence in education and student success.
In this role, you will play a vital role in training the next generation of nurses in our Adult Practical Nursing Program. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging and effective instruction in a laboratory setting, during clinical rotations, and within the classroom environment.
- Developing and preparing high-quality lesson plans aligned with program curriculum and student learning objectives.
- Conducting comprehensive student evaluations to assess knowledge, skills, and clinical competence.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date student records to ensure program compliance.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of an approved registered nursing education program.
- Experience of at least two years in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse.
- Two (2) years' experience in specialty areas medical-surgical, pediatrics, maternity, or mental health nursing is a plus but not required.
- Functional abilities to carry out classroom, clinical and laboratory teaching responsibilities.
- Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills.
- Excellent teaching and classroom management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred; candidates with an Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) or RN diploma and relevant clinical experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Current, valid licensure as a registered nurse in Ohio.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates proper respect for students and has student-friendly manner in the conduct of class.
- Aligns instruction with course learning objectives.
- Works effectively as part of the overall faculty team demonstrating positive interpersonal relations, collaborating with other faculty members to meet student needs, participating in faculty meetings, and nursing program committees, and responding to requests from management.
- Maintains academic standards and course expectations throughout each course.
- Utilizes course materials effectively, demonstrates thorough knowledge of content, and incorporates real life nursing practice examples.
- Plan and carry out, in conjunction with the cooperating agencies, the instructional program for clinical experience.
- Interpret policies, regulations, and purposes of the cooperating agencies. Provide an orientation, including introductions of the staff, to the cooperating agency for the student.
- Communicate clinical objectives to the student and staff at the clinical site. Communicate clinical objectives to the teaching assistant and preceptor if applicable.
- Supervise students providing nursing care to an individual or group of individuals in the clinical setting.
- Evaluate the students’ experience, achievement, and progress in relation to the clinical objectives. Collaborate with the teaching assistant or preceptor for evaluation when applicable.
- Assist in the formation, implementation, and revisions of the philosophy and objectives of the program.
- Develop teaching outlines and materials that meet the behavioral objectives for all phases of learning contained within the program.
- Adopt teaching methods and materials to meet the needs of the student and enhance the objectives of the program.
- Collaborate with faculty to evaluate academic achievement and progress in relation to theory objectives.
- Actively contribute to faculty meetings, planned activities, and committees associated with the program.
- Maintain currency in nursing practice and nursing education to support standards for the nursing program.
- Function in the classroom/clinical at the direction of a faculty member.
- Inform students of academic and clinical progress at designated intervals throughout the program of learning.
- Communicates with the Program Administrator and/or Health Professions Academy Coordinator as necessary to resolve issues or concerns.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Program Administrator.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Registered Nurse: 2 years (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred; candidates with an Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) or RN diploma and relevant clinical experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Current, unencumbered, valid Ohio RN nursing license required.
LOCATION: Health Professions Academy at Scarlet Oaks Career Campus
SCHEDULE: Part time hours vary based on program needs.
SALARY/PAY SCALE: $35.49 per hour
