Class: Non-Exempt - Full Time April 2025
Location: Merriam
Reports to: Senior Manager of Adoptions
Salary: $18-$23/hr

Position Summary: This position plays a key role in supporting the successful placement of animals by managing the full adoption and intake process with professionalism and compassion. This position ensures a positive experience for both patrons and animals by promoting high-quality customer service, gathering and communicating essential information, and making informed, safe adoption matches. Flexibility, problem-solving, and strong interpersonal skills are essential as the role involves collaboration across departments, conflict resolution, and adaptability in dynamic environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive results and movement of animals through our adoption and intake processes
- Uphold and promote a culture of high-quality customer service for all patrons
- Ability to ask appropriate questions and gather information during adoption/intake screening process
- Manage adoption and intake processes from start to finish, including all necessary paperwork
- Ability to diffuse conflict and de-escalate situations when necessary
- Provide information to the public on all GPSPCA services and programs, communicating the organization’s culture, philosophies, and mission in a positive manner
- Understand animal behavior and common issues to create lasting and safe adoption matches
- Ability to speak to an animal’s medical or behavioral needs in a clear and positive manner
- Maintain knowledge of all adoptable animals to appropriately place them in adoptive homes
- Problem solve and think creatively to ensure a positive outcome for customers and animals in our care
- Maintain efficient interdepartmental communication, procedures, and processes
- Assist with adoptions and Intake department administrative duties
- Ability to flex between cattery, front desk, and intake department based on need
- Other shelter duties as assigned

Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- 2-3 year of related sales and customer service experience in a fast-paced corporate environment
- Prefer familiarity with computer functions and programs such as Internet and web-based programs, Microsoft Office, and PetPoint
- Knowledge and work-related experience with animals
Additional Requirements
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
Work Conditions
- Must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays
- Must be comfortable working with dogs and cats of all ages and temperaments
- Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
- Displays maturity, good judgment, professionalism, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm and empathetic in stressful situations
- Compassion and empathy for animals and humans
- Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious animals, and high noise levels.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, stooping, carrying, and reaching
- Handle and restrain animals weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Lift 50 lbs. to waist height
