Job Description
Summary/objective
The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness of their assigned areas and others as needed. Those areas consist of, but are not limited to, classrooms, shops, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms and other work areas.

Work environment
The custodian typically works both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to inclement weather, noise and dust. A standard workweek as assigned by administration is required, but evening or weekend hours may be required to accommodate activities and/or during school closure due to severe weather or other circumstances.
Physical demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to perform extensive medium to heavy work. The employee will constantly move about to accomplish tasks; particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another, repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers, and may stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is frequently required to lift, move, or position objects up to 50 pounds, ascend or descend ladders, stairs, or ramps and communicate with the public, staff, parents and students. The employee will constantly assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned. The employee will frequently be exposed to high or low temperatures, moderate noise, fumes or airborne particles and caustic chemicals.
Travel required
Occasional travel within and outside of the Great Plains Technology Center district may be required for work at other school sites, professional development, and participation in other Great Plains Technology Center activities.

Job Description
Summary/objective

Essential Functions
- Sweep, scrub, wax, and polish floors using manual and electrically powered cleaning equipment and machines
- Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture manual and electrically-powered cleaning equipment and machines
- Dust furniture and equipment
- Polish metalwork
- Wash walls, ceilings, and woodwork
- Wash windows, door panels, and sills
- Empty wastebaskets, transport trash and waste to disposal area
- Ensure that restrooms are clean and sanitary by sweeping, washing and/or scrubbing the restrooms using specific cleaners for foaming and/or disinfecting, restocking all appropriate paper products, refilling soap dispensers, replacing sanitary disposal liners, and removing all trash and waste products from restrooms
- Respond to emergency situations such as water leaks, flooding, overflowing restroom fixtures, and accidents resulting in the appearance of bodily fluids
- Replace light bulbs in all areas of responsibility
- Shovel snow, distribute ice melt as needed
- Prepare classrooms, meeting rooms, auditoriums, and outdoor locations for events and activities by moving furniture as necessary and setting up equipment, tables, chairs and other specifically requested items
- Transport small equipment or tools between departments
- Report damage to buildings, facilities, furnishings and equipment to immediate supervisor immediately upon discovery
- Subject Knowledge: Strong understanding of custodial equipment and upkeep of facility.
- Communication Skills: Ability to collaborate with other custodian/maintenance team members and departments to resolve issues.
- Professionalism: Effective time management skills to handle multiple support requests and prioritize tasks appropriately. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools. A commitment to staying up to date with industry trends and developments through self-learning and professional development opportunities.

- One year of custodial experience
