Why Your Role Matters

The Art Barn is a special part of Adventure Camp where kids can be creative, try new things, and have fun making art. This program gives campers a chance to express themselves, build confidence, and enjoy hands-on activities that match the weekly camp themes. The Arts & Crafts Instructor helps make this happen by leading fun art projects, keeping the space safe and organized, and creating a welcoming place for all campers to feel proud of what they create.

How You Make An Impact

• Facilitate fun and engaging arts & crafts sessions for campers of all ages, helping them express themselves and explore new creative skills.
• Design unique weekly craft projects that align with Adventure Camp themes and are developmentally appropriate for different age groups.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized Art Barn—ensuring materials are prepped and ready for each day.
• Monitor art supplies, track inventory, and communicate with leadership to order and restock materials as needed.
• Create a welcoming, supportive atmosphere where all campers feel encouraged to try new things and take pride in their creations.
• Collaborate with counselors and camp leadership to support smooth transitions, camper engagement, and special camp events.
• Model the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in every interaction.
• Assist with additional tasks as needed, contributing to the overall success of the program.  
  
  

What You Bring to the Y   

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• 1-2 years of experience working with children in a camp, classroom, or enrichment setting preferred.
• Passion for arts and crafts with the creativity to design engaging and unique projects
• Strong decision-making skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• You are a team player—You are a team player with a positive, service-oriented attitude and can work well with others. 
• You communicate effectively - You listen for understanding and meaning. You speak and write effectively.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, hike outdoors in hot temperatures, bend, talk, and occasionally lift and/or move items, including equipment, furniture, and/or children.
