QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2 years related post high school training desired
- Proficient use of all Microsoft Office applications, with demonstrated expertise with Word and Excel
- Working knowledge of accounting/finance in a payroll environment
- Experience in the Uniform School Payroll and Accounting System is preferred
- Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a time sensitive environment
REPORTS TO:
Treasurer
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs administrative and office support work for the Treasurer’s Office within a team-based work environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Enter new employees into the payroll software system.
- Generate payroll reports for agency checks prior to printing.
- Enter and check all amounts provided by the Human Resources Department.
- Print and prepare payroll and agency checks for disbursement.
- Balance and prepare data for W-2.
- Update employee information as needed.
- Prepare ODJFS reports.
- Prepare Retirement, Medicare and City Tax Reports monthly, quarterly, and annually.
- Verify the accuracy of time sheets for all employees.
- Respond to employee questions regarding payroll.
- Coordinate monthly premium payment for benefits.
- Assist the Treasurer by preparing reports for the State Teacher’s Retirement and the School Employee Retirement Systems.
- Balance and prepare the year-end reconciliation transmittal for federal withholding tax; State; city; and school taxes.
- Maintain and enter calendars for all employees into the payroll system.
- Assist the Treasurer in auditing, reviewing, and evaluating payroll procedures and internal controls.
- Archive payroll documents.
- Process employment verifications, service verifications and garnishments calculations/reports as needed.
- Enter/prepare data required for annual audit.
- Provide back-up support for other service areas within the Treasurer’s office.
- Assume other duties as assigned
