Winton Woods City Schools is seeking a passionate and experienced High School Athletic Director to lead our athletic programs with a focus on excellence, student development, and equity. This individual will oversee all aspects of the athletic department, ensuring compliance with state and national regulations while fostering a culture of academic and athletic success.
Essential Duties
Program Leadership & Compliance
- Supervise the high school’s athletic programs in coordination with the Principal, Superintendent, and district leadership, including recommending policies and procedures.
- Analyze and evaluate existing athletic programs and equipment to ensure they serve the best interest of students, comply with applicable laws (including Title IX), and promote safety.
- Assist in the recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation of all coaches to ensure high-quality instruction and mentorship.
- Serve as a consultant to administration, teaching staff, coaches, and students on matters related to athletics.
- Develop and implement procedures to maximize student participation in athletics, ensuring equal opportunities in athletic programing.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and interscholastic league regulations, including those set by the OHSAA and other governing bodies.
Facility & Event Management
- Supervise and coordinate district athletic facilities, scheduling practices and athletic events while ensuring timely communication regarding times and locations.
- Oversee game-day logistics, including officials, referees, security, ticket sales, medical care, concessions, press box operations, scorers’ tables, and halftime activities.
- Ensure all fields, courts, and facilities are properly maintained and game-ready.
- Coordinate the transportation schedule for safe and cost-effective travel to off-site athletic events.
- Assist in the administration of community event passes for athletic and related school events.
Budget & Fiscal Management
- Supervise and manage the athletic department budget, including inventory control of uniforms, supplies, and equipment.
- Oversee fundraising efforts, sponsorships, and booster club partnerships to support program growth.
- Manage spirit wear sales and branding initiatives to promote school pride and generate revenue.
- Ensure all financial transactions align with district policies and procedures.
Technology & Promotion of Student-Athletes
- Leverage technology and social media to promote student-athlete achievements, schedules, and events.
- Maintain relationships with media sources to provide updates on schedules, cancellations, statistics, records, and highlights.
- Create digital and print materials to publicize athletic events and increase community engagement.
Student, Family & College Engagement
- Organize and schedule college recruiting events, campus tours, and informational sessions with college coaches and representatives.
- Meet with families and student-athletes to discuss academic expectations, eligibility, and opportunities for post-secondary scholarships.
- Establish and oversee criteria for athletic awards and recognition programs to honor student achievements.
Health, Safety & Equity
- Coordinate required physical examinations for athletic participation.
- Ensure proper injury response, accident documentation, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Promote a culture of sportsmanship, leadership, and academic success among student-athletes.
- Advocate for equitable access to resources, facilities, and funding for all sports programs.
Hall of Fame Oversight & Professional Engagement
- Oversee and promote the Winton Woods Athletic Hall of Fame, ensuring recognition of outstanding former athletes, coaches, and contributors.
- Organize the nomination, selection, and induction process, including special events to honor inductees.
- Serve as the district representative for athletic associations, including interscholastic leagues, booster clubs, and governing sports organizations.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the High School Principal or Superintendent.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of athletics, athletic programs, and physical fitness.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding school district athletic programs, safety and health, and other areas under responsibility.
- Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to evaluate, develop and implement athletic programs, activities and events, and make effective recommendations related to those areas.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.

Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
Previous experience in athletic administration, coaching, or a leadership role in athletics.
Strong knowledge of OHSAA regulations, high school athletic programming, and NCAA recruiting processes.
Experience in budget management, fundraising, and financial planning for athletic programs.
Proficiency in leveraging technology for program promotion, data tracking, and communication.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and community partners.
