Job Summary: The Dean of Students will assist secondary building administration in managing overall student behavior (PBiS), student attendance/ truancy and academic interventions (RTI) by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Education and Experience:
Valid licensure as issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret facility and survey results, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries and complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers, or members of the school community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to administration, staff, public groups, and/ or Board of Education.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory based on school objectives. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and the community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written and oral communications. Ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and BOE policies. Must have excellent organizational and time management skills. Excellent written communication skills required. Experienced and proficient in use of technology. Excellent verbal (including listening) and non-verbal communication skills. Must be able to provide demonstrated leadership in the execution of communication strategies. Must be able to work independently. Pushing the agenda and goals of the school district is imperative. Political acumen and organizational support is strong focus as well.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage student supervision issues and fully implement PBiS in both the HS and JS.
- Monitor and enforce the district attendance policy.
- Assist building administration in coordinating PBiS and RTI to improve both academic/ social growth.
- Process discipline referrals from teachers in a timely manner and communicate with them during the process.
- Counsel students and parents about school/ district policies.
- Confer with students, parents and teachers where individual student academic, attendance, health and/ or behavior issues are involved.
- Assist in planning, developing and implementing, monitoring of IEP or behavior plans.
- Act as a resource for teachers, counselors, and administrators regarding student achievement, attendance, behavior and/ or health problems.
- Issue appropriate student discipline for levels 1- 3 infractions (up to alternative school assignments).
- Investigate/ recommend students for suspension and/ or expulsion in coordination with building admin.
- Assist in developing programs and intervention strategies to promote positive student behavior.
- Assist team leaders of the PBiS team and RTI teams in each building.
- Perform other significant or related duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
- Coordinate/ collaborate with building leadership and Counselors to identify students transitioning to the next grade level that will need additional academic/ social interventions.
- Collect student academic & behavior history for at-risk students identified from the previous grade level and provide necessary information to the assigned teachers.
- Communicate regularly with parent/ guardian of identified at-risk students for the purpose of reporting student progress.
- Assist in developing Functional Behavior Assessments or intervention plans for students that are not performing to school or district standards.
- Attend RTI and PBiS team meetings in cooperation with building teams and provide necessary discipline and transition data to support our mission.
- Follow-up with teachers, students, and parents according to the review date of the FBA's or behavior intervention plans - for the purpose of evaluating student progress.
- Check daily attendance to assess students with truancy and/ or tardy problems and communicate regularly with admin, counselors, parents and truancy court.
- Work in cooperation with guidance counselor and admin to meet with students struggling in areas of attendance, behavior and academics.
- Progress monitor/ collect data - RTI / PBiS
- Monitor and collect data to assess the success of RTI / PBiS systems in each school.
- Perform other significant or related duties as assigned by the building admin.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field at minimum, with work towards a Master's Degree in Education Administration - preferred.
- Future aspirations to become an administrator.
- Experience in working with students at the secondary level is also considered important.
- Willingness to become a trained evaluator for the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System.
- Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience.
