GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Indian Hill School District is seeking an educator who wants to have an immediate and significant impact on student learning. They will be the instructor of students identified as gifted in a superior cognitive program. They will also teach the unique elective called Launch, which develops leadership skills and design-thinking in our 8th-grade students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*):
Works with the gifted/talented program coordinator to evaluate program criteria and determine student qualifications. Screens students using standardized forms and/or approved checklists.Pursues opportunities for parental involvement in the gifted/talented program. Acts as a liaison. Helps with problem resolution. Directs parents to additional resources for their child within the district and the community.
Researches and prepares educational materials for gifted/talented students.
Serves as an advocate for gifted students and assures that those gifted students’ needs are met.
Serves as a resource person for ideas and materials to help general education classroom teachers modify content, processes, or products to meet identified student needs in the general education classroom.
Provides instruction to assigned students; prepares and implements daily lesson plans in collaboration with the general education classroom teacher.
Pulls together flexible groups for service to identify students of superior cognitive ability, specific academic achievement, creative thinking ability, or visual/[performing arts talent to provide instruction, seminars, or field-based experience.
Assists in developing and implementing Written Educational Plans (WEP) and Written Acceleration Plans (WAP).
Maintains regular communication with teachers, parents, students, and administrators about the involvement and progress of the student as outlined in the WEP and WAP.
Actively participates in the identification of students. Reviews test scores and other criteria with the gifted services coordinator.
Plan and facilitate acceleration, gifted evaluations, including the communication of those results to parents, teachers, and administrators.
Coordinate, including administration at times, of gifted identification measures.
Assists school counselors and principals in the appropriate education placement of gifted students.
Help provide ongoing staff learning at the school site about the academic, emotional and social needs as well as characteristics of gifted students. Provides other professional learning at a district level, when necessary, such as new teacher orientation.
Offers guidance and support to parents of gifted students about the academic, emotional, and social needs as well as characteristics of gifted students.
Adheres to the district’s philosophy of education and instructional program in accordance with District policies and administrative guidelines, Operating Standards for Ohio Schools, and the provisions of State and Federal law.
Follow prescribed state standards, District curriculum guides, and approved courses of study.
Help students to learn subject matter and skills that will lead to their development as mature, able, and responsible adults.
Provide effective instruction and support that enables students to gain knowledge, acquire skills, and develop positive learning behaviors.
Plan for instruction using written lesson plans that reflect the District’s adopted courses of study.
Diagnose the learning needs of all students on an ongoing basis and focus instruction to address their identified needs.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques, technology, and media, consistent with the District’s approved instructional program, physical limitations of the facility, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Administer standardized testing, as assigned, and assess student performance on an ongoing basis; report student progress to parents/legal guardians using methods approved by the District.
Work in conjunction with Student Services staff to promote instructional services and support for special needs students in accordance with individualized education plans (IEPs) and/or other District-authorized accommodation plans.
Provide for individual learning needs of students and engage in enrichment, support, intervention, and remediation efforts.
Respect the diversity of students’ culture, language skills, and experiences.
Create a learning environment that is physically and emotionally safe.
Participate in professional learning and training, as assigned, and implement District initiatives.
Maintain records as required by law, District policy, and administrative guidelines.
Motivate students to work productively and to take responsibility for their own learning.
Maintain a class environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Maintain organization, control of student behavior and discipline, and a positive learning environment.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and the community.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with other teachers, administrators, parents, and school/District staff.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Utilize technology and social media in accordance with District policies and administrative guidelines in a professional and responsible manner.
Meet the professional expectations of attendance, suitable attire and decorum, participation in school and District meetings/functions, and support of District initiatives.
Respond to specific requests from the Principal on matters affecting the program and building operation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid State of Ohio teaching licenseGifted Licensure Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited educational institution.
Commitment to meeting the learning needs of all students.
Proficient in basic computer skills and applications necessary to access timely and relevant information and able to disseminate same.
Good health and good attendance record.
Additional qualifications as the Board of Education may require.

Use technology resources in accordance with District policies and administrative guidelines and the provisions of State and Federal law. Online conduct, including postings to social media, shall be in a manner sensitive to the employee’s professional responsibilities.
Perform other duties related to the teacher’s role as assigned.
