The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) located in Cleveland, Ohio, is searching for an Equipment Repair Leader to join our Operations Division.
Detailed DescriptionDuties: Conducts scheduled bus inspections and fills out inspection sheet. Diagnoses problems with bus systems including engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, electrical, cooling system etc. Repairs buses as needed. Fills out appropriate paperwork. Equipment Repair Leader trains and gives technical direction to 442 and 447 mechanics in all of the above duties. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required. Works overtime as necessitated by operational needs.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have a high school diploma or its GED equivalent. Applicants must have successfully completed technical courses covering automotive, bus, truck, or heavy diesel repair, including electrical systems theory and repair, basic maintenance, brakes and suspension, and engine repair, taken at the high school or post-high school level. Applicants must have previous experience diagnosing and repairing a variety of problems with bus mechanical and electrical systems. Applicants must have a GOOD DRIVING RECORD, with no more than FOUR (4) POINTS, in the past three years. Applicants must have a valid OHIO STATE COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE (CDL) WITH PASSENGER AND AIR BRAKES ENDORSEMENTS FOR VEHICLES WEIGHING 39,500 LBS.

Environmental Conditions: Exposure to cold, heat, noise, and vibration inside and outside of garage environment.
Physical Demands: Must be able to pass DOT physical requirements for CDL driver and pass Drug & Alcohol testing requirements. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, climb, reach with hands and arms, frequent to continuous driving, sitting, handle or feel, see with normal visual acuity, talk, speak and hear. The employee is required to lift materials up to 50 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to monitor a video display terminal.
Mental Demands: Reading, watching, studying, observing, focused listening. Concentrated attention to detail for prolonged periods of time. Auditing, inspecting, tabulating data, proofreading, analyzing and evaluating.
Examination Information:
Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process will be submit to ASE testing. Candidates who successfully pass the ASE test will be subject to an interview.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows: Internal - ASE test (Must Pass) 42.5%, Interview 42.5%, Eligibility Certification 15%; External - ASE test (Must Pass) 50%, Interview 50%.
Applicants who currently hold ASE certification in H8 and any one additional H-Series certification will not be subject to additional ASE testing for this position, but will be subject to an interview.
All candidates must score a minimum composite score of 70% in order to establish eligibility for the position. Candidates that meet the minimum requirements and are selected to continue in the process will be sent an iRecruitment communication. Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria in order to gain the 15% weighting. Records evaluation information includes a review of the following:
- 5 or more absence occurrences
- 2 or more AWOL or absence control suspensions
- 3 or more active written reminders (regardless of the level)
- 5 or more misses (regardless of whether they are active or not active)
- 4 or more active tardies
- Drug or alcohol suspension
- Commercial Drivers License (CDL) suspension
- Active Decision Making Leave (DML)
Internal Candidates must also submit a properly completed Eligibility Certification for Internal Selection Process Form (revised 4/5/2013) along with their application. Forms are available from Human Resources and RTA District Offices.
Applicants who do not pass the written examination must wait six (6) months to reapply after the initial written examination date.
