Detailed Description
Duties: Performs general labor duties for one or more departments throughout the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority. Depending on the assigned department, performs some or all of the following: seasonal maintenance, such as snow removal and cutting branches, weeds, etc., digs for cables and signal equipment, assists in maintaining a variety of equipment, maintains, renews, and repairs all rail tracks; includes lubricating rails, performs weekly inspection of all rail tracks; serves as Flagman; completes these tasks in emergency situations; performs seasonal maintenance duties on tracks; utilizes hand tools and operates heavy equipment; records all activities into a written log, cleans and maintains all assigned buses, provides excellent customer service to the public and performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements: Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Applicants must be able to read, prepare basic arithmetic calculations and understand simple instructions. Applicants must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License. Applicants must have a GOOD DRIVING RECORD with no more than FOUR (4) POINTS, in the past three years. Applicants must also have the ability to move up to 50lbs. Applicant must also have excellent communication skills.
Successful candidates will be expected to pass a background check and post-offer physical that is job related and consistent with business necessity.
Working Conditions: The working conditions described below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
Environmental Conditions: This person will work in a variety of environments, which may include offices and garages, as well as extreme weather conditions, where there may be no effective protection. This person will also be subjected to atmospheric conditions that could affect the respiratory system and/or the skin including, but not limited to fumes, odors, mist, gases and/or poor ventilation.
Physical Demands: Physical activity associated with performing the job include, but are not limited to: routine walking, standing, bending and frequently moving/transporting items weighing up to fifty pounds (bags of salt, lawn clippings, shovels, trash, etc.); positioning, and otherwise handling/manipulating items (manual or automated tools, cleaning solvents, etc.); inspecting equipment, structures, or materials for upkeep or other problems; reading and comprehending information presented in black & white, color, verbally and in writing (instructions for handling equipment/tools, etc.); communicating with co-workers and the public.
Mental Demands: This person will be required to effectively deal with individuals with a range of models and behaviors. This person will also be required to read text and print, and/or write correspondence, as well as effectively communicate and negotiate.
Additional Information: The performance of these duties may be required at any time of the day or night, any day and night of the week. The position is a bargaining unit position.
Examination Information: The examination process will consist of three parts: a written examination, performance assessment and/or interview, and record evaluation (for internal candidates only). Candidates must attain a minimum of 70% on all parts of the process, except 60% on the interview portion, to move forward in the process.
Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for external candidates: Performance 70%, Interview 30%. Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for internal candidates: Performance 55%, Interview 35%, Record Evaluation 15%. All candidates must score a minimum composite score of 70% in order to establish eligibility for the portion.
