What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Manager / Safety Lead position at GREATER DES MOINES HABITAT FOR HUMANITY?
Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity (GDMHFH) is looking for someone who can balance safety advocacy, employee relations, data management, training (employees and volunteers) and managing our manage a health and safety systems. We've updated our safety focus/program and need a strong professional to implement and manage the program from the ground up. This role is crucial in ensuring that everyone embodies the value of building a safety mindset.
General Position Summary: The Safety Project Lead at GDMHFH will collaborate with leadership and external safety partners to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all staff, volunteers, and customers. Additionally, the Safety Project Lead will ensure that GDMHFH complies with local, state, and federal guidelines and procedures.
Core Responsibilities:
- Safety Councils: Facilitate both internal and external safety councils to establish policies and plans, identify and close gaps, report measures, and execute action plans. Ensure that Habitat's policies and practices support OSHA and HFHI guidelines and align with industry standards.
- Assessments: Gather safety feedback by conducting safety audits of sites and interviewing staff and volunteers.
- Reporting and Recordkeeping: Collect data and report on safety measures both internally and externally, including completing OSHA form 300.
- Safety Programs: Develop, deploy, and maintain processes and tools needed to manage a health and safety system, such as incident reporting, incident investigation, risk assessment, and corrective measure management.
- Training: Ensure that the necessary training is available and support leadership in defining and executing training plans.
- Process Definition: Assist leadership in documenting all key processes to ensure they can be followed by everyone.
- Strong background in managing multiple priorities at one time
- Professional experience in project management, employee relations and training very desirable
- Strong background in working effectively with a diverse group of people in a professional and meaningful way
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, occupational safety and health, or related field preferred
- Previous experience in comprehensive workplace safety and compliance programs or related field preferred (but not required)
- Willingness and ability to become proficient in managing a full and comprehensive safety program for our employees and volunteers
- Willingness and ability to stay up to date on latest local and state regulations and safety guideline changes
- Valid Driver’s License (travel within service area is required)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient computer skills
- Convey clear, concise information to others, using verbal or other appropriate communication techniques
- Treat others in a nondiscriminatory, lawful and ethical manner, respecting the differences among people, and the value they bring to GDMHFH
- Follow safe practices in all work activities to avoid injuries and accidents
