JOB SUMMARY
As a Martial Arts Instructor, you will inspire and enable students ages 5 to adult to achieve their greatest potential. This is accomplished through creating an environment that is encouraging to all, regardless of skill level. Focused on building both physical and mental confidence through teaching appropriate skill development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
As a Martial Arts Instructor, you will inspire and enable students ages 5 to adult to achieve their greatest potential. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Build collaborative relationships with participants and parents.
- Create a welcoming, safe and fun environment for students.
- Work collaboratively with Supervisor and other instructors to develop objectives and goals for each session.
- Instruct proper form and technique of skills that are in accordance with the ability level of the students.
- Clean, maintain and monitor room for safety consideration and member service.
- Assess student progress and effectively communicate progress to families.
- Attend meetings, trainings and student testing as required.
- Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children which includes:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children.
- Attend required abuse risk management training.
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
SKILLS AND TRAINING
- Current Certification by a recognized body indicating belt rank and ability such as Tae Kwan Do, Jujutsu or Judo disciplines.
- Two or more years of experience teaching martial arts in a structured setting. Preferably with school aged youth.
- Understanding of youth developmental stages.

- Safety: While creativity is important in motivating your team, you will provide instruction that ensures the safety of all, and ensure the environment is safe and engaging. Cleaning, inspecting and maintaining equipment will ensure participant safety.
- Physical Requirements: Due to the instructional nature of the position, the instructor must actively lead and demonstrate skills. This will require the significant use of hands, arms and body. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds to set up and put away equipment and safely spot participants is required.
- Critical Thinking and Decision Making: You are empowered to make informed, independent, decisions within the scope of delivering exceptional SMART service. Make these decisions based on logic, experience, and sound judgement. Be available to answer parent questions and appropriately handle complaints.
- Philanthropy: As a charitable organization, the Y depends heavily on financial support from the community. You will be called upon to support fundraising initiatives.
