What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Manager position at Greater Iowa Credit Union?
We are currently seeking an Accounting Manager to ensure that the general ledger and accounting systems provide timely and accurate financial information. Implement procedures, policies, internal controls, and train staff using "Best Practices" under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Provide financial reports, analyses, and ALM reports to the Board of Directors, Management, Regulators, and independent accountants.
Location: 1509 Baltimore Drive, Ames, IA 50010
Hours: Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm Hybrid
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the general ledger and accounting systems provide timely and accurate financial information. Implement procedures, policies, internal controls, and train staff using "Best Practices" under generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the Board of Directors, management, and regulatory agencies. This includes Rewards Based Pricing, reports for ALM, financial statements, scorecard, allowance for loan loss, delinquency reports, FHLB Borrowing Base, FR2900,Call Report, etc.
- Manage accounting department, including general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, cash and investments.
- Manage back office functions for ACH, member share draft processing, escheat, wire transfers, ATMs, debit cards, credit cards, etc.
- Coaches and directs staff to ensure completion of department and credit union goals and compliance within external regulations while working with the Vice President of Finance.
- Completes various accounting activities as they pertain to the operations of the credit union such as verifying completion of GL reconciliations.
- Coordinate annual CPA audit and assist with periodic regulatory exam preparations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.
Education: Must possess a bachelor's degree with a major in accounting or finance.
Interpersonal Skills:
Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Other Skills
1. Proficient with financial projection software, excel, word, outlook as well as other accounting and spreadsheet software.
2. Strong organizational skills.
3. Ability to motivate, challenge and discipline staff as needed.
4. Ability to read materials such as regulations, policies and policies and then apply the material to the credit union operations.
