What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Transitional Worksite Aide position at Greater Lowell Technical High School?
What you will do:
Support groups of Special Education students who require transitional training in community-based worksites as well as building-based work-related activities.
Typical tasks you will perform:
1. To support students in the area of work ethics through instruction.
2. To support students in the area of communication skills including scripting and modeling.
3. To support students in the area of job skills and monitor independence levels.
4. To support students in the area of life skills such as money skills, hygiene, and sanitation.
5. To support students in the area of mobility training/travel training.
6. To assist students with applications for employment.
7. To assist students with job interview preparation and practice.
8. To assist employers in dealing with issues that arise in work training for Special Education students.
9. To transport students to and from the transitional worksite ensuring all safety protocols are followed throughout transit.
10. To keep accurate data on skill development and communicate that information to teachers for progress reporting.
11. To break down work tasks into manageable steps with clear instructions.
12. To produce visual aids to assist with instruction to support skill acquisition.
13. During times in the school building and not off-site, ensure students are engaged in work readiness skill building practice/instruction.
14. Select and deliver relevant lessons from transition curriculum to reinforce specific skills being practiced.
15. Identify and communicate out on students’ skill mastery and determine interventions for building up skill deficits.
16. When TOPS program staff are absent, provide program support as needed and directed (class coverage, increasing group size, support in the culinary cafe etc).
17. Coordinate and communicate as needed with families and directly with students to ensure students report to the supported work setting appropriately groomed and maintaining professional appearance. Connect students with
additional supports as needed (Catie’s closet etc.)
18. Keep parents, worksite employers, and students abreast of any schedule changes.
19. Assist in the implementation of behavior/incentive systems as needed including relevant data tracking.
The qualifications you will bring:
1.Associates degree or equivalent.
2.MA Certification in Special Education (preferred).
3.Experience with high school age special needs students.
4.Experience with supervising students in transitional training worksites (preferred).
5.Strong interpersonal skills.
