The Position
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Operations, the Housekeeping Manager is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of housekeeping operations across multiple shifts and operating units within Greater Midland facilities. This role is focused on creating a culture of accountability, driving efficiency, optimizing processes, and ensuring high standards of cleanliness and safety. The Housekeeping Manager will oversee recruitment, hiring, scheduling, training, and performance management of staff across 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader who fosters a strong, engaged team while implementing best practices in cleaning, safety, and cost-effective supply sourcing. This role also requires the ability to operate effectively during peak facility usage times, ensuring seamless housekeeping operations without disrupting patron experiences. This Housekeeping Manager must maintain high personal standards, adhere to, and carry out the Purpose and Values of Greater Midland.
Major Job Responsibilities
> Establish and maintain a culture of accountability by setting clear expectations, tracking performance, and providing constructive feedback to staff.
> Conduct weekly audits of cleaning, safety, and sanitation practices to ensure compliance with organizational standards and MIOSHA safety regulations.
> Develop, implement, and refine standard operating procedures to drive efficiency and process improvements in daily and periodic housekeeping operations.
> Ensure that housekeeping teams are well-trained and consistently executing cleaning protocols to maintain a high standard of cleanliness across all facilities.
> Lead and manage a team of housekeeping staff across multiple operating units and shifts, ensuring adequate coverage, efficiency, and team effectiveness.
> Collaborate with leadership to develop and execute strategic initiatives related to facility cleanliness, patron experience, and operational excellence.
> Plan and coordinate major deep-cleaning activities while minimizing disruption to facility operations and ensuring patron and employee safety.
> Manage budgetary responsibilities by overseeing cost-effective sourcing of cleaning supplies, equipment, and contracts to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
> Maintain accurate records of expenditures, supplies, payroll approvals, employee attendance, injuries, and behavior concerns.
> Develop and implement a structured approach to handling employee absences to ensure continued operations without compromising cleanliness and safety standards.
> Recruit, interview, and onboard qualified candidates to maintain a strong housekeeping team.
> Conduct employee performance evaluations, set goals for continuous improvement, and take corrective action when necessary to uphold organizational standards.
> Foster cross-department collaboration to ensure effective communication and alignment with overall facility operations and goals.
> Ensure housekeeping operations are efficiently managed during high-use facility times, such as events, peak patron hours, and special programs, without disruption to members or guests.
> Oversee and coordinate facility setups for rentals, programs, and other facility uses, ensuring that all arrangements meet organizational standards and customer expectations.
> Participate as a member of the Senior Leaders Council, contributing to strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
> Consistently demonstrate leadership behaviors aligned with Greater Midland’s Values.
Qualifications
> High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications in facility management, custodial management, or related fields preferred.
> Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in housekeeping or facility maintenance management, preferably in a multi-unit or high-traffic facility.
> Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team across multiple shifts, fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.
> Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to operational challenges and process improvement.
> Excellent time management skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively.
> Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to work with facility management software.
Physical Requirements
> Hours of operation vary and may include early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
> Must have the ability to travel to various locations as needed to oversee housekeeping operations.
> Requires the ability to stand, walk, lift, and perform physically demanding tasks as needed to support the team and ensure cleanliness standards.
Salary
Hourly wage of $20.00 - $25.00 per hour; potential performance incentive and annual merit increase.
Schedule
Hours of operation vary and may include early mornings, late evenings, and weekends; General hours will be 9a – 5p.
