Organization Summary : As a trusted resource for families, the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery partners with parents to promote strong, healthy families by offering free, voluntary services for parents who face barriers such as unemployment, homelessness, medical or mental health concerns, poverty, domestic violence, or other difficult situations. We help strengthen families by connecting them to resources, caring for their children during difficult times, and setting goals that promote stability and make the relationship between the parent and child stronger.

Position Overview : The Development Officer will play a key role in advancing the organization's mission by cultivating and stewarding donor relationships, with a primary focus on securing gifts of $5,000 and above. This position is responsible for implementing effective donor engagement strategies, building long-term relationships with major donors, and driving revenue growth through personalized cultivation efforts. The Development Officer will collaborate closely with leadership, development team and volunteers to support fundraising initiatives and ensure a positive donor experience.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Develop and execute a strategic moves management program to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors, with a focus on securing $5,000 gifts and increasing contributions from current donors.
  • Partner closely with the Development Director and Executive Director to strategize and coordinate high-impact cultivation and solicitation meetings, ensuring personalized donor engagement.
  • Create and implement tailored stewardship plans to deepen donor relationships through individualized outreach, exclusive events, and meaningful touchpoints. Includes planning, managing, and executing donor stewardship events, to foster deeper relationships.
  • Plan, create, and manage invitations for fundraising events, ensuring targeted outreach to major donors and prospects while collaborating with the development team and volunteer event committee for successful event execution.
  • Craft compelling donor communications, including proposals, impact reports, personalized acknowledgments, and progress updates that inspire continued and increased giving.
  • Collaborate across the development team to deliver a seamless and positive donor experience, sharing insights and best practices to maximize engagement.
  • Provide regular, data-driven reports on major gift pipeline progress, prospect status, and fundraising outcomes, offering strategic recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate donor records in the donor management system, ensuring all contacts, outreach, and engagement efforts are thoroughly documented per established protocols.
  • Conduct in-depth donor research to build comprehensive donor profiles, identifying giving capacity, philanthropic interests, personal connections, and engagement opportunities.
  • Proactively identify and pursue new funding sources, including prospective major donors, corporate partnerships, and event sponsorships, to diversify revenue streams. Ensure regular, personalized, and timely communications with donors and prospects.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or event management.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Proficient in donor management software (e.g., Blackbaud) and other fundraising-related databases.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships with internal teams, donors, volunteers, and external partners.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, as needed to support yearly fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Strong persuasive skills and the ability to engage donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders to secure contributions and resources for fundraising initiatives.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, leadership, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
