About The Position:
Using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles the staff accountant will verify and post detailed business transactions to general ledger in support of day-to-day credit union operations. The Accountant is responsible for performing tasks necessary to balance and update general ledger and subsidiary accounts, maintain and reconcile daily cash accounts, and prepare month-end financial statements.
What You'll Be Doing
- Analyze account reconciliations prepared by accounting specialists for integrity.
- Provide guidance to accounting specialists on proper account reconciliation procedures and assist other departments in resolving accounting issues to ensure accurate presentation of financial data.
- Participate in the month end close, preparation of board reports, and other regulatory reports. Analyze and research general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy of financial data according to accounting policies.
- Prepare summary journal vouchers and verify that all other journal vouchers and cash received have been properly posted, balanced and authorized. Review and analyze financial data.
- Generate business unit performance reports and statements as requested by management.
- Develop, maintain, and manipulate complex accounting spreadsheets.
- Prepare reports using accounting systems from initial design through analytical review of results.
- Research and adjust all open items, cash imbalances, and variances.
- Research and run all prepaid and fixed asset items in the depreciation program.
- Assist with internal and external audits and prepare accounting schedules as requested.
- Analyze and document accounting procedures and practices.
- Recommend changes to procedures and methods that increase productivity, efficiency and control.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 1 year of experience in Accounting required (Financial institution experience preferred.)

Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of your job, you may regularly be required to sit and use a keyboard, multiple monitors, mouse, and telephone (including repetitive motions with hands, fingers, arms, etc.) for extended periods of time. You may also frequently be required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, bend, and kneel.
- You may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Location and Travel Requirements
The Accountant can be Remote within Nevada, or at one of our office locations in Reno or Carson City, Nevada.
- You must be willing and able to travel to locales other than the normal location for the position, including overnight trips as appropriate for your job responsibilities.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle.
Compensation & Benefits
- $48,000.00 - $67,000.00 per year
- Compensation is dependent on experience
