What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Foreman - Harvest Floor Hide On position at Greater Omaha Packing Co.?
This position will manage the direct supervision of our beef processing production operations. This position will ensure production meets objectives at a designed quality level consistent with the lowest cost while maintaining a safe work environment within either of our Harvest, Fabrication or Ground Beef Departments.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Taking immediate action to eliminate improper practices or hazardous conditions.
- Trains and provides an environment for employees to achieve their maximum quality and productivity performance in their respective positions.
- Plans and schedules manpower, materials, product and machines to most effectively and efficiently utilize departmental policies and procedures fairly and equitably to maintain standards established for safety, quality and overall company personnel satisfaction.
- Manages employee performance, providing positive and/or corrective feedback.
- Promotes department and company goodwill through pro-active employee communication and employee involvement.
- Investigates, in cooperation with other departments, areas of quality improvement, cost reduction, method improvement, yield control and equipment maintenance and provides suggestions.
- Promotes safety throughout area where crew is working.

Education and/or experience:
A four-year degree is preferred in a related field, such as Food Science. Five (5) years of related experience with some portion in the Beef industry is preferred. Strong management skills utilizing sound management principles in leading a team of employees. Proven ability to train and motivate personnel. Must have strong organizational skills.
Communication skills:
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, business partners, U.S.D.A., supervisors and employees. Bilingual Preferred.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical, diagram, written and/or verbal form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to mine, analyze, prepare and present food safety data. Be able to demonstrate proficiency in software such as, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and prestige.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility. The employee is required to sit; use hands to finger; handle; or feel/hold objects; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; speak; hear taste and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Be able to speak on the phone, make field visits to industrial areas when necessary.
Work Environment:
The work environment is a combination of corporate and manufacturing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to cold and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, cold temperature, risk of electrical shock, and vibrations.
