Preschool Floater Job Description
Reports Directly to the Center Director
Summary: The Greater Peace Child Development Center Preschool Teachers (Lead, Floaters, and Substitutes) are responsible for providing an early education program for students ages 2-4 years of age. Teachers and Floaters address all areas of development and meet each child's individual needs. In partnership with parents, teachers observe and assess the development of each child, plan curriculum based on child development knowledge, design the learning environment, and implement and supervise developmentally appropriate learning activities while fully engaging with their students.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop indoor and outdoor learning environments that provide a variety of age-appropriate experiences to foster child exploration and discovery.
- Use a curriculum framework and tools that provide opportunities for each child to meet learning expectations that prepare children for success in life and school.
- Establish a daily routine that includes time for small group, large group, one-on-one tutoring, encourages creative expression, and incorporates health and nutrition development as part of daily activities.
- Model appropriate and respectful behavior to the child, parents, and staff.
- Work with parents to plan a culturally appropriate curriculum that supports children’s learning styles and interests.
- Assure menus, weekly/monthly newsletters, and daily Classjo’s are sent to parents in an attempt to maintain positive and informative communication.
- Support children’s social and emotional development through positive child guidance approaches and the development of positive relationships in the classroom.
- Assess each child’s learning needs through screening, observation, ongoing assessment, and the development of individual learning plans—report assessments to the Center Director in December, March, and May.
- Collaborate with other teachers and parents in the center.
- Have parent conferences with each child’s parent(s) at least three times each school year (August-May) to discuss the child’s progress and development.
- Establish and maintain confidential, accurate, timely information on each child’s development and program participation.
- Maintain records and documentation of each child using Google Docs. Documentation should be kept daily and shared with the Center Director.
- Participate in center events such as Kiddie Prom, Christmas Parade, Easter Egg Hunt, etc.
- Promote the Child Development Center
- Complete weekly lesson plans (two weeks in advance) and ensure a copy of lesson plans and a list of supplies is given to the Assistant Director or Center at least two weeks before needing materials and supplies.
- They must be patient, display creativity and innovation, and have a basic understanding of schedules, transitions, preschool songs, nursery rhymes, redirecting, and positive reinforcement.
- Understand DHR Standards, Policies, and Procedures
- Create seasonal bulletin boards and door decorations.
- Attend all staff meetings and required training.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized classroom.
- Assist in maintaining a clean facility and playground.
- Behave professionally on and off the clock.
- Dress professionally at work and wear closed-toe shoes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be 19 years of age
- Preferred Associates have degrees in Early Childhood Education or Human Growth and Development, Child Development Associate (CDA), or a minimum of three consecutive years of experience.
- Must complete an FBI/ABI Fingerprint Background Check and a DHR Child and Adult Neglect Background Check. We can accept one you already have as long as it was completed within three years.
- Complete a medical exam and TB Test.
- Complete required DHR training within 30 days of hire and complete all required annual training (minimum 12 hours).
- Demonstrate ability to build positive relationships with children.
- Demonstrate ability to work efficiently within a team.
- Demonstrate computer skills, organizational skills, and a commitment to follow through on tasks with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrate ability to use sound judgment in critical and adverse situations.
- Demonstrate ability to work with people, including parents, social service providers, and school district personnel.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Work in the preschool classroom setting
- Arranging furniture and classroom learning areas as needed
- Be able to sit on the floor and engage with children
- Be able to lift to 50 lbs.
- Be able to perform stationary routines and repetitive functions for extended periods.
- Change diapers, pull-ups, and clothes as needed.
Work Schedule:
- M-F 6:45 am-3:45 pm

- $13-$15 per hour
