Principal Responsibilities:
Camp JCC is seeking a qualified, energetic, and compassionate candidate as an NATURE SPECIALIST for summer 2025. The Nature Specialist is responsible for developing and leading engaging, hands-on environmental and outdoor education experiences for campers of all ages. This role fosters a sense of appreciation for nature, encourages outdoor exploration, and teaches environmental stewardship through interactive activities, nature walks, and nature-based crafts. The position requires an ability to manage day-to-day interactions with children in grades K-9, a strong ability to work collaboratively with the Camp JCC team, and the capacity to be flexible.
Minimum Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with children in a camp, school or daycare environment (experience leading outdoor education, nature-based activities, or environmental programs preferred)
- Must enjoy playing and interacting with children
- Organized, enthusiastic, and energetic
- Must be a creative and innovative thinker and planner
- Must take initiative, be self-directed, and capable of independently identifying and solving problems
- Must have excellent communication skills and work well with both children and adults
- Pass a required background check
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan a variety of nature based activities for children ages 4 through 15 including nature walks, gardening, eco-crafts, and basic outdoor survival skills
- Provide a planned and thoughtful program, infused with values, such recycling, not wasting resources, and guarding the earth that will interest and excite campers
- Adapt individual and small-group instruction to the needs of campers with varying intellectual and artistic abilities
- Multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Plan and direct engaging, age-appropriate activities
- Serve as a positive role model in the camp community
- Communicate with leadership to order supplies for projects
- Manage risk, supervise participants, and model safe best practices while working
- Other duties as assigned by camp leadership
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Applicant must be available to work Monday through Friday, June 10 through August 9 (8 weeks of camp plus staff week) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
