JOB SUMMARY
The Grant Writer works under the supervision of the Economic Development Manager and is responsible for identifying, supporting the development, coordination, management and implementation of grant funding initiatives for MSD Member Communities. The Grant Writer provides support and assistance to the Economic Development and Long-Range Planning Divisions as directed. This position plays a key role in supporting community development, economic growth, and long-range planning efforts by identifying, writing, and managing grant applications. The Grant Writer will collaborate closely with internal teams, such as Finance, Engineering, Long-Range Planning and Economic Development, and external stakeholders, including community improvement districts, federal, state and local government organizations, and regional partners. The position also assists member communities in aligning grant opportunities with broader capital improvements, land use and community objectives, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and maximizing external funding to advance strategic goals.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, Business Administration, Urban Planning, or a related field.
Experience:
· Proven record of accomplishment of securing significant grant funding.
· Experience in municipal or community development-related fields is a plus.
Skills:
· Verified written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong research, analytical, and organizational abilities.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with grant management.
Certifications:
· Certification in Grant Writing or related training is preferred but not required.
Special Requirements
· Valid Utah driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Grant Identification and Research: Identify potential grant opportunities from federal, state, and private funding sources that align with the strategic goals of the MSD and its member communities.
· Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with MSD departments, member communities, and external partners to develop competitive grant applications.
· Proposal Development: Prepare high-quality grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation, tailored to the requirements of funding agencies.
Grant Management:
· Monitor awarded grants to ensure compliance with funding requirements, including reporting, documentation, and performance evaluation.
· Follow financial tracking and reporting requirements as set forth by the Finance Department.
· Grant Tracking: Maintain a database of funding sources, applications, and reporting deadlines. Track metrics related to grant success rates and funding outcomes.
· Training and Support: Provide guidance and training to member communities on grant opportunities and reporting requirements.
· Public Engagement and Outreach: When required, periodically attend community meetings, workshops, and other events to gather input and communicate funding opportunities.
· Reporting: Prepare regular reports summarizing grant activities, successes, and upcoming opportunities. Present findings to leadership and stakeholders as needed.
· Other Duties:
· Provide assistance to the Long-Range Planning and Economic Development Divisions as directed by the Economic Development Manager.
· Perform other duties as assigned to support the Economic Development and Long-Range Planning teams.
Knowledge of:
· Grant funding landscapes, including federal, state, and private sources.
· Principles of project budgeting and fiscal management.
