Development Director - Special Events

Position Summary:
This position reports to the Director of Development and serves on the Development team. This individual is responsible for executing special events which includes but is not limited to: recruiting and managing committees, meeting sponsorship/fundraising goals, handling event logistics, creating communication materials related to events. He or she will collaborate with the Director of Development to develop strategies and implement tactics to increase event support that further the mission and advance the goals of Greater St. Louis Area Scouting
Specific Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead all aspects of the six council special events as well as look for ways to raise dollars through new special events where applicable.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward current and prospective donors who specifically give to special events.
- Discover and manage prospects, oversee, and execute the closing of sponsorship asks.
- Prospect and build relationships with committee volunteers giving specific attention to event chairs.
- Responsible for planning and implementing cultivation events as identified by the Director of Development.
- Monitor and prepare budgets and reports related to all special events.
- Develop printed materials for all events such as save the dates, invitations, programs and AV at events (i.e., power point, etc.)
- Manage online giving as it relates to special events (i.e., online auction).
- Assist with other development team initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned and as a member of the Development Team.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, with a minimum of 3-5 years of advancement experience.
- Experience in special event planning and execution.
- Demonstrated skill in gift solicitation.
- Graphic design experience a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to represent the Greater St. Louis Area Scouting to external constituents and work effectively with internal constituents across all levels.
- Experience in identifying, training and motivating volunteers.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); experience with Raiser’s Edge donor software or similar fundraising software a plus.
- Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Willingness to work evening and weekend hours as needed.
Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000 per year
