This is a second (2nd) shift position.
2:00 pm – 10:30 pm
Hourly Pay Rate - $18/hour 1.00/hour shift premium

The Laboratory Technician will operate laboratory equipment and perform tests to ensure production of quality castings. Perform all tasks with safety and quality in mind and in accordance with established procedures and process instructions. Take necessary action to minimize delay time and maximize production.

What You'll Do:

• Exhibit superior safety practices every day evidenced by outstanding housekeeping at all times.
• Extend treatment to all other employees of the Company as individuals with the courtesy and dignity shown to customers.
• Exceed customer quality and service expectations through attention to detail.
• Exercise maximum care to protect the environment by fostering and supporting responsible operating procedures.
• Perform a variety of tests on ductile iron utilizing the spectrometer and other testing equipment. Call and stop pouring in the foundry to prevent the pouring of nonconforming castings.
• Polish and evaluate micro-lug samples and use the QRS system to prevent the pouring of nonconforming castings.
• Standardize and operate the spectrometer. Use the QRS system to maintain the correct chemistry in the furnaces.
• Perform various sand tests including Methylene Blue Clay, Loss of Ignition, Volatiles and Sand Wash. Communicate the results to the appropriate personnel in the Mold Department to maintain sand quality.
• Prepare various chemical solutions used for testing.
• Prepare and distribute all test bars, complete hardness checks and record test results when returned.
• Section castings to check for shrink and verify microstructure as instructed.
• Maintain laboratory equipment in a clean and orderly manner including reporting any damage or malfunctions to supervision.
• Secure proper tools for each task
• Communicate suggestions and recommend solutions to problems to provide for an efficient operation
• Approach work assignments in a positive manner and function as a team member
• Perform other assignments as may be requested

What We Need from You:

• Requires prior experience working with decimals and fractions, drawings and formulas, adjustable measuring instruments.
• Requires over three months, up to one year of experience.
• Judgment to perform work and make decisions as to setups and quality.
