Job Summary:
As a Green Acres Summer Camp Art Teacher/Specialist, you will play a crucial role in creating a safe, engaging, and fun environment for campers during the summer months. You'll be responsible for supervising and leading camp activities, fostering positive relationships among campers, and ensuring their well-being throughout their camp experience. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children while gaining valuable leadership and teamwork skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise Campers: Oversee the day-to-day activities of campers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and adherence to camp rules and regulations.
- Lead Activities: Plan, organize, and lead a variety of age-appropriate art activities, for campers ages 4 - 8.
- Facilitate Learning: Create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages campers to learn new skills, develop interests, and build confidence.
- Promote Camper Engagement: Encourage active participation and social interaction among campers, fostering friendships and teamwork.
- Provide Guidance: Serve as a role model and mentor to campers, offering guidance, encouragement, and positive reinforcement.
- Manage Behavior: Address behavioral issues promptly and effectively, using appropriate disciplinary techniques and conflict resolution strategies.
- Ensure Safety: Maintain a vigilant eye on campers at all times, identifying and mitigating potential safety hazards, and following emergency procedures as needed.
- Communicate with Parents/Guardians: Keep parents/guardians informed about their child's camp experience, providing updates on activities, achievements, and any concerns.
- Collaborate with Camp Staff: Work closely with fellow counselors and camp leadership to coordinate schedules, plan events, and address any logistical or operational needs.
- Attend Training and Meetings: Participate in pre-camp training sessions, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with children in a camp, school, recreational, or childcare setting preferred but not required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage and motivate children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Demonstrated creativity, enthusiasm, and patience.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). NOT Required for all position level
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and engage in physical activities for extended periods.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Schedule:
This is a seasonal position typically beginning in early June and ending in mid August. Camp hours may vary but generally run Monday through Friday 8am - 3:30pm Some evening or weekend work may be required for special events or extended camp sessions.
