SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Shop Manager to oversee daily operations in our Saw Shop. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing a production environment, with a strong understanding of machining processes, equipment, safety protocols, and staff coordination. The Shop Manager will be responsible for maintaining operational efficiency, ensuring quality production, and managing a small team of machinists and technicians.
Relocation is included and negotiable.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Operations Management :
o Oversee day-to-day shop operations, ensuring production runs smoothly and efficiently.
o Maintain accurate production scheduling to meet lead time and quality requirements
o Monitor deadlines along with production capacities.
o Monitor workflow, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve efficiency.
o Ensure the equipment is properly maintained and operational.
2. Team Supervision :
o Supervise and coordinate the activities of machinists, technicians, and other shop personnel.
o Provide guidance, training, and support to staff, ensuring adherence to best practices and shop standards.
o Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that emphasizes teamwork, safety, and quality.
o Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to employees to help them grow professionally.
3. Quality Control :
o Ensure products are manufactured to specifications, with attention to detail and quality.
o Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure finished products meet customer requirements and industry standards.
o Troubleshoot and resolve quality issues, working closely with the production team.
4. Inventory & Materials Management :
o Oversee inventory management for raw materials, tools, and shop supplies.
o Ensure materials are available for production and manage stock levels to prevent shortages.
o Order supplies and equipment as needed, while keeping costs in line with the budget.
5. Safety & Compliance :
o Enforce and promote a culture of safety in the shop, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other industry safety regulations.
o Conduct regular safety inspections and address potential hazards.
o Ensure employees follow proper protocols for machine operation, material handling, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
6. Customer Interaction :
o Coordinate with customers as needed to discuss project specifications, timelines, and any changes or updates.
o Work with the sales team to provide input on quoting, lead times, and project feasibility.
o Address complaints or concerns regarding product quality or timelines.
7. Financial & Budget Management :
o Assist with budget planning, cost control, and resource allocation to ensure efficient use of company resources.
o Track shop expenditures and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality or safety.
o Help analyze shop performance metrics and provide reports to management on key performance indicators (KPIs) like efficiency, lead times, and quality levels.
o Manage profitability of all jobs by reviewing / analyzing actual versus standard cost. Implement continual improvement efforts as necessary
Required Qualifications :
Experience :
o Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a machining or manufacturing environment, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or management role.
o Proficient in CNC machining, manual machining, and shop tools and equipment.
o Strong knowledge of machining materials and processes, including fabrication, assembly, and finishing.
Skills :
o Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to motivate and manage a small team.
o Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and production issues.
o Knowledge of blueprint reading, CAD / CAM systems, and machining specifications.
o Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
o Proficiency in shop software (e.g., inventory, scheduling, and manufacturing resource planning (MRP) systems)
