Job Description:
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all plant floor operations during their assigned shift. This role involves managing machine center operators and ensuring that production targets, including the timely delivery and shipping of GLT and related components, are met. The supervisor will spend the majority of their time (over 90%) on the production floor, providing leadership, guidance, and support to the team. The role ensures that work is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while maintaining a strong emphasis on safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruit, select, train, and develop machine center operators and support staff to form effective teams and meet production goals.
- Motivate the team to consistently achieve production targets.
- Communicate regularly with Project Managers and the Plant Manager, providing status updates and production reports.
- Proactively identify and raise awareness of any quality or scheduling issues that may impact customer delivery.
- Build strong relationships with the Maintenance Team to quickly address and resolve equipment issues.
- Ensure production is conducted safely, efficiently, and meets high-quality standards.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Drive the implementation of cost reduction initiatives.
- Uphold a high standard of safety in the workplace and ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports, with support from the Plant Manager and HR.
- Ensure operators are well-equipped with the necessary information, tools, and resources to meet production targets.
- Foster transparency, trust, and open communication at all levels of the organization.
- Maintain an excellent time and attendance record, holding direct reports to the same standard.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Solid technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment (mechanical and electrical).
- Lumber mill experience is an advantage.
- 2 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting, ideally within wood processing.
- Expertise in operating and training staff on all relevant tools and equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Creative problem-solving abilities with a results-driven attitude.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills.
- Strong understanding of product standards, including APA-PRG-320, and related manufacturing SOPs.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Experience in motivating and managing individuals at various skill levels.
- Health and safety training, including First Aid, CPR, and AED.
- High School diploma or equivalent required; technical or college degree preferred.
