Job Title: Behavior Interventionist
Reports To: Principal
Location: Greene County Elementary School
Employment Type: Full-Time, 10-Month Position
Job Summary:
The Behavior Interventionist will provide support to students, teachers, and staff in fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment. This role involves implementing evidence-based behavior interventions, supporting students with social-emotional challenges, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and support staff to promote student success.
Key Responsibilities:
Implement behavior intervention strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, and administrators to develop and implement individualized behavior support plans and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
Conduct observations and data collection to assess student behavior and intervention effectiveness.
Provide direct support to students in crisis situations, using de-escalation techniques and restorative practices.
Assist in training staff on behavior management strategies and intervention techniques.
Work closely with parents and caregivers to provide guidance and support in managing student behavior at school and home.
Participate in team meetings, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, and Response to Intervention (RTI) discussions as needed.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of student behavior and interventions.
Foster a positive school climate by promoting social-emotional learning and proactive behavior strategies.
Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience: Prior experience in behavior intervention, special education, counseling, or related fields preferred.
Certifications: CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification or willingness to obtain; training in PBIS, SEL (Social Emotional Learning), or Restorative Practices is a plus.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of behavioral principles and interventions.
Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
Knowledge of de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed practices.
Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and progress monitoring.
Patience, empathy, and cultural competency in working with diverse student populations.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Work is performed in a school setting, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces.
Must be able to stand, walk, and occasionally restrain students if necessary, following school policies and training guidelines.
May involve occasional lifting of materials and participation in physical activities with students.
