Advanced Design and Simulation – Manages the completion of analysis requests in support of the corporate growth strategy, and in alignment with the strategy, goals, and objectives, of all Business Units. Ensures design analysis support is provided by supervising the deployment of analysis resources and tools including Finite Element Analysis (FEA); process analysis including material flow, thermal analysis, and computational fluid dynamics; and development and management of custom nonlinear material models. Ensure analysis capability is available to support product development, process development, and scrap reduction initiatives. Manages the maintenance of software and computing capabilities to ensure fast, reliable analysis capacity.
Product Test Lab – Manages the development of testing solutions and completion of testing requests in alignment with the corporate growth strategy, and the strategy, goals, and objectives, of all Business Units. Supervises the workload for standard product testing and oversees the development of custom testing solutions including the design and procurement of custom testing jigs, fixtures, and test rigs. Ensures custom testing solutions are reliable and repeatable and partners with Applications Engineering on elimination of testing system variables to establish confidence in test results. Manages the maintenance of custom test equipment including working with the testing team to select solutions to improve system reliability and reduce risk of downtime. With oversight of the Product Test Lab sites in Kulpsville and Houston, the position also directs and coordinates the department’s interactive relationships with GTC staff and management in the Business Units, Manufacturing, Corporate, Advanced Technology Group, external technical organizations, and with customers. The position also has the responsibility and authority to ensure compliance to ISO requirements and documented test methods through new and updated work instructions to maintain company certification.

Job Description
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Leads the Advanced Design & Simulation (AD&S) and Product Test Lab (PTL) staff to execute design analysis and testing programs to support corporate and business unit growth initiatives.
- Responsible for the AD&S and PTL team’s performance against defined metrics, including on-time requirements, driving continuous improvement to maximize team effectiveness and efficiency.
- Collaborates with the Advanced Technology Group, Applications Engineering, Marketing, and Production to understand and support strategic plans and operational objectives and develop plans for capacity and capability in alignment with these objectives.
- Develops AD&S and PTL personnel in accordance with individual performance objectives and in line with overall functional objectives including, but not limited to, technical and analysis skills, organization and project management skills, electronics and equipment controls, hands-on machine maintenance, and a foundational understanding of product design.
- Executes performance and development plans for the continuous expansion of AD&S technical analysis capability and PTL testing capability and capacity including the evaluation and selection of new software and testing systems.
- Manages the budget for analysis software and demonstrates the value of analysis capability via faster time to market, shorter development time, providing expert customer support, manufacturing process evaluation and improvement, and scrap reduction.
- Collaborates with Business Unit personnel and AD&S team members on the identification and development of new analysis capabilities. Ensure the AD&S team stays up to date on the latest in industry analysis capabilities and authorize evaluation of new analysis capabilities for use within the organization.
- Collaborates with Business Unit personnel on the identification and development of new testing equipment, Business Unit leadership and Marketing on constructing a business case to support expansion, Procurement on identification and approval of suppliers, and Facilities on installation requirements and costs. Guides capex requests through approval process and provides cost/benefit support for the business case for approval as needed.
- Executes the PTL annual capital equipment plan and manages the capital expenditure budget including ensuring alignment with Business Unit objectives on timing and execution of new testing capability. Kicks off capex projects and manages execution with a sense of urgency to keep in alignment with proposed spending plans. Partners with Finance throughout the fiscal year to review and manage departmental and capital equipment budgets.
- Oversees AD&S and PTL departmental budgets including software, computing capability, consumables, spares, upgrades, equipment overhauls, and periodic inspection and calibration requirements, as well as travel and employee training.
- Ensures that PTL work instructions are maintained and updated as required and that the PTL is in compliance with industry and customer audit requirements. Resolves any audit findings or quality notifications in a timely manner.
- Maintains a safe work environment for all staff and ensures that the PTL meets or exceeds corporate 6S safety targets.
- Updates and maintains training records for all PTL staff and ensures compliance with industry, customer, and corporate training requirements. Directly manages hourly staff including approval of time cards for hourly employees.
- Manages issues with execution of service requests including prioritization of work and communication of expectations across the various Business Units. Develops recovery plans when possible.
- Leads troubleshooting issues with test equipment including bringing in resources to help with resolving issues as needed.
- Represents the Product Test Lab and Advanced Design & Analysis teams on customer-facing calls, as needed. Manages analysis and testing schedules including schedule recovery, as needed.
- Identifies skills required to execute the goals and objectives of the AD&S and PTL teams and develops training plans to close skill gaps. Also, recruits appropriate personnel to close skill gaps and advance departmental capability.
- Drives the continuous upgrade, optimization and automation of the global Engineering organization’s design tools, leveraging technology to improve accuracy, speed, and design process performance. Also, identifies and manages the development of workflow automation solutions for repetitive programming tasks.
- Collaborates with the commercial and marketing organization to support the growth of new and existing products through engineering consultation and analysis of new solutions and development and deployment of custom testing solutions. Develops roadmaps to support various Business Unit growth objectives.
- Ensures various gages, load cells, and other measurement equipment is calibrated prior to deployment in testing, proactively completes calibration for upcoming testing programs and completes calibration of equipment as needed at the end of testing programs.
- Develops schedules and provides updates to internal and external customers for various testing programs, capex projects, equipment overhaul programs. Includes buffer in schedules to accommodate potential downtime and issues with equipment.

Skills and Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in an Engineering role with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership position required. Customer-facing experience preferred.
- Design experience using 2D and 3D Drafting and Modeling software
- Experience with material testing and material data analysis preferred
- Black Belt or Green Belt certification preferred
- Technical leadership experience in a regulatory requirement required (AS9100, ISO 9001, NADCAP, etc)
- Ability to lead in global cross-functional team environment
- Excellent technical communication / presentation skills with internal and external customers
- Ability to travel up to 20% of time for strategic business needs
