What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Manager position at Greener Corp?
Description
We’re looking to hire an Accounting Manager with a strong understanding of accounting principles and demonstrated experience preparing financial statements. The incumbent will report to the CFO and manage a team of two other accounting specialists. This is a new role, and you will be expected to work with the existing team to grow and streamline the department.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the monthly financial statements.
- Review and finalize A/P and A/R for the period.
- Reconcile the bank statements, adding and correcting accounting transactions as needed.
- Review the Standard Cost Activity Report for discrepancies and unusual variations, making corrections as necessary.
- Record payroll, investment, and other manual accounting transactions
- Review the financial statements for reasonableness and present the finalized financial statements to management.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting activities (A/R, A/P, payroll, etc.). As needed, assist the team in processing invoices and running Payroll.
- Manage our payroll system, ensuring the system is configured to provide accurate accounting and compliance reports.
- Manage international invoice paperwork and customer payment contracts (e.g., Letters of Credit).
- Ensure required tax payments are made and manage incoming tax correspondence, coordinating compliance with our tax CPAs.
- Continuously review and improve procedures.
- Manage credit extended to customers, regularly reviewing customers for timeliness and following up as necessary to adjust terms.
Requirements
- This position does not require a CPA or other certification, though any such accreditation will be considered a plus.
- Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of direct experience performing the following tasks and at least five years of experience in the accounting profession. However, exceptional candidates with less (though still some) direct experience with these tasks will also be considered.
- Prior experience closing the monthly books and preparing financial statements, including conducting bank reconciliation, making manual journal entries & reviewing A/P & A/R.
- Familiarity with core accounting and GAAP principles: Candidates must have experience deriving accounting procedures from GAAP principles. They must be comfortable communicating complex concepts clearly when confirming their understanding with the CFO or our external CPA advisors. CPA or other certifications/degrees are not required, so that candidates can demonstrate their experience.
- The ability to interpret financial statements: The Accounting Manager will review the statements for reasonableness before submitting them to ownership. They will be expected to spot, investigate, and communicate anomalous trends or results.
- Prior experience setting up and maintaining a payroll system, including coding deductions to the General Ledger and generating reports to assist HR in legal compliance.
Soft skills
- Integrity is non-negotiable: The Accounting Manager is expected to be a key advisor to ownership and must be trusted to oversee money entering and leaving our accounts.
- Comfort with ambiguity: The accounting Manager is expected to handle novel accounting problems. While they can certainly consult with the CFA and our external CPA firm, they must be comfortable solving problems that lack clearly defined next steps. Candidates most comfortable executing a predefined process would be a poor fit for this role.
- Collegiality: Candidates must enjoy working in a team environment and measure their success at the group level, not individually. This includes a willingness and ability to develop and grow the team members reporting to the Accounting Manager.
- Curiosity: “Continuous improvement” is a cultural pillar at Greener. We look for team members who exhibit genuine curiosity and humility, acknowledging they don’t have all the answers. They recognize the feeling of never being satisfied with “good enough.”
